A funny little Easter Egg (which even I - who played almost every version of the game since 1991 - didn't know about 
):
Near the beginning of the game, after escaping from your cell and aquiring the laser gun, waiting on the same screen for several minutes spawns a little UFO at the upper edge of the screen which follows and ultimately kills the player character.
This was even included as a secret trophy / achievement in the Playstation, Xbox and Steam ports:
