If you ever played BUGSNAX, you probably know that each creature you come across say their names as their cry.

Sound familiar? That’s because the game was inspired by the Pokémon franchise; more specifically, the anime. Many Pokémon names often are portmanteaus of two or more words, something which BUGSNAX also took inspiration from.

According to the developers at indie studio Young Horses, the game was inspired by the original Pokémon Snap game for the Nintendo 64. They also utilized ideas from Ape Escape, Dark Cloud, and Viva Piñata.
