If you want to play the pure unbalanced original, go with Red.
If you want to play a game that's a lot more balanced and has more content, Fire Red all the way.
Seriously Alakazam and Mr. Mime your way through the originals sometime, it's funny how OP Psychic was.

To me, Red and Blue was REALLY frustrating to me when i was but a kid (got into pokemon at 13). I was very confused about the whole evolution process that i thought that all pokemon evolve at a certain level,so when i had a growlithe in my team,i was piss the f offed that it never evolve when i was grinding for them exp. points (I was at the Elite Four and my poke's were underleveled since i mostly used venusaur for battles) until someone told me that i needed a fire stone to evolve it but i had wasted the pokedollers on hyper potion and revives. I felt entirely stupid and rage quit(but i beat it later on)
