Any animation fans on here?

There are gamers on here, but what about the respect for animation? If there's an animated video game there's a cartoon that it came from. So here's the thread where we can talk about the cartoons we love(make sure you give a detailed reason why you like it) along with feature films, shorts, and upcoming/being developed animated projects as we speak.

Like everyone(in some cases) I am a fan of the golden age of animation. Mostly for the Tex Avery cartoons(his MGM years) along with Bob Clampett's cartoons. As for films. Some of the best animated features I've seen are the ones outside of the USA(Spirited away, Secret of the kells, Waltz with Bashir just to name a few). I am getting annoyed with most american theatrical animation being the same damn thing over and over again. However. There have been a few good movies here and there such as Wreck it ralph and Hotel Transylvania. I do hope adult animation like Fritz the Cat and Coonskin make its return in the theaters. But considering that Hollywood treats animation like its a digital babysitter I dont see it happening anytime soon.

I'd talk about tv shows, but I cant think of anything on the top of my head at the moment.

I don't watch many cartoons now a days, becuse one, I don't really watch that much TV and Two, Most Cartoons now a days suck. The cartoons I do watch are when my niece comes over and I have to ask "What happend?". The only good cartoons on now are old cartoons (the ones when my parents were kids and the ones when I was one), Anime (there cartoons too. Cartoons are animation and that's what Anime means. Get over it), and maybe My Little Pony (Not a big fan of it but it is still better than most of the crap).

As for movies, I'm not that up with what's in theaters as I don't go much any more. Like I said, I watch a lot of things with my niece, and since she likes watching movies and TV, I watch a lot of animated stuff. I have also learned which Disney movies I like (Sleeping Beauty, Mulan) and which I don't (Snow White). Most Disney movies really are hit or misses, but most are really good for being really old or being made in today's age of bad movies. Except Snow White. Snow White is boring and not worth watching. That might have to do with being the oldest of the "Story Book" movies.

Also I'm buying my Niece "My Neighbor, Totoro" for her birthday. Why Totoro? Why not Totoro?

My favorite films along the lines would have to be The Nightmare before Christmas, and Spirited Away. You're rather fortunate when you grow up with things such as those. Sure, Jack's got a really bad fanbase but for a 1 movie then Kingdom Hearts gig that's kind of expected.

As for cartoons, I enjoyed most of them up until they all became Spongebob look-alikes.

Funny you should bring up The Nightmare before Christmas. I have only seen the movie with in the last few years. My mom was a gung oh Cristian, and she thought the movie was "The work of the devil" and "Christmas should not be spoiled with the work of something so evil". I'm not make up those words. Those were her exact words. It's the same reason why I never went trick-or-treating. She has changed, but she still does not like the movie. My niece and nephew have seen the movie but only becuse my sister let them watch it.

Ah, I'm all too familiar with that attitude. One of my aunts wouldn't let her kids watch anything with "magic" in it because she thought someone down the family line died in the Saleem Witch Trials.

I mostly watch anime now, but I grew up watching classics such as Looney Toons, Felix the Cat, Popeye, etc. While I do believe that some animated shows on TV are pretty terrible, sometimes there are gems that may just "look bad". One of my favorites is "Regular Show", as while the plots sometimes tend towards the ridiculous, at its core, it's about two 20-something guys who are working menial jobs while trying to figure out what to do with their lives, which is something that many people can identify with.

As for theatrical releases, I love Miyazaki films and anything by Pixar. Early Miyazaki films were always magical, portraying strong, memorable characters. I don't find newer Miyazaki films to be quite as amazing, but they are still fantastic and worth re-watching. I have yet to see a Pixar film which has been anything but great (although I haven't seen Cars 2 yet, which I believed is regarded as their worst film).

I mostly like animes because most, if not all cartoons nowadays are so fucking bad it hurts to watch. I liked the Old Cartoon Network shows (pre 2007); i.e. Courage, Powerpuff, Grim Adventures, Fosters Home, etc. I also like the older cartoons; i.e. Looney Toons, Woody Woodpecker, Flinstones, etc. As for films I also like Studio Ghibli films, granted I haven't watched some in a long time, but I still like them.

I have too many tv shows to talk about most of them like Dexter's lab or courage the cowardly dog and older stuff from Cartoon Network. Now the only cartoons I can think of that I watch are regular show and adventure time. For film (very similar to Raven) I am big into Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli and love all the Pixar films (I have not yet seen Cars 2, Brave, and Monsters U)

I also really like the work of Tom Oreb, here is a link to some of his newly discovered work: http://www.cartoonbrew.com/disney/galler...79618.html

Speaking of Jack the Pumpkin King, I'm named after him!

I've already given up on Pixar. Their only good things nowadays are their earlier stuff before the Disney buyout. I do love the Incredibles, but in all seriousness, thats the ONLY Pixar film that deserved a sequel. The others are obviously just made for the sheer sake of Pixar making a quick buck. I was forced to watch Cars II in the theaters with my nephew and boy did I ever hate it. It was just "Cars toons the movie".

I had hopes for Brave, but I was left disappointed. It was just the same thing that was done over and over from Disney only made by Pixar(of all people). It really didn't help the fact that the executives butchered the concept of Brave while it was being developed. They even fired off their female director Brenda Chapman off of it and replaced it with a guy(sexist much Pixar?). Although I will admit a few of my friends online think the line "I'd be shooting for my own hand" sounded a bit like a joke on masturbation. Didn't help that Brave even won the oscar because it was a film from Pixar? You know what deserved the Oscar over that crappy movie? Wreck it ralph. That had a better story for me to care about then the cliched over and done with Pixar film.

TV shows that are animated are not that hard to come by, the good ones are. Heck. Some of them don't even get pass the pilot stage. Like the Modifyers and Moobeard the cow pirate. Those deserve shows more than the crap thats being aired these days. Sym Bionic Titan and Motorcity should have been continued. But instead the companies behind them decide to cancel them for crap that they know kids would love while the adults would hate their guts for doing that move.

A few years ago I would have agreed with you on the "Incredibles are the only ones that need a sequel" bit. Well, I mean I still think that but I'm so tired of unnecessary Pixar sequels now. The Toy Story sequels, sure. Those are fine. But Cars II? Monsters Univeristy? Now this Planes bullshit and a Nemo sequel? Come the fuck on Pixar, we know you're more than capable than making outstanding, ORIGINAL, stuff.

Except wait a minute, maybe they're not. Because I thought Brave was a huge disappointment. The movie I saw in theaters was not the movie I was shown via trailers. I was expecting an awesome story featuring a, finally, female lead to trek across Scotland fighting bears and magic creatures and shit. And what did I get? "Oops, my mom's a bear now". Pixar can go blow.

I had high hopes for Brave as well. The trailer was definitely misleading, as I thought exactly the same way you did. I was not expecting a story focusing on the strained relationship between a girl and her mother. In fact, I think I annoyed my friends by pointing out that the girl basically poisoned her mom because they disagreed with each other.

I also was disappointed that it won over Wreck-It Ralph. Wreck-It Ralph had a much more interesting story, and in the end, a better message portrayed more effectively.

However, putting my expectations aside, I don't think Brave is a bad movie, although it is easily one of Pixar's weakest films. I would watch it again, if only to marvel at the lush animation.

Oh another note, I totally forgot to mention Dexter's Laboratory. That show was the bomb dot com, and it's the reason why I knew how to spell "laboratory" as a little kid.

Yeah, poor Pixar isn't what it used to be. I did really like Monsters University, but it fell flat for a Pixar flick.

I really wish that the Reboot movie had gone through. That show still holds up astonishingly well once you get past the first season.

Oh, ya'll need to watch some Home Movies:

Due to the My Little Pony remake, and the fact the their releasing dolls of Jem characters, I'm guessing a new Jem and the Holograms cartoon is likely to be in the works. Can't deny the original is a bit cheesy, and the ladies suffer from the same whore syndrome as the Sailor Moon girls, but that cartoon was darn good for the 80s.

Mostly eastern animation works (anime).

Western animation works I have enjoyed are Gravity Falls and Adventure Time, with movies like Lion King and Up.

Yes. I love anything and everything that has to do with animation. Animated comics, cartoons, anime, CG films... Pretty much anything as long as it's not some terrible kids' show nobody in their right mind would watch past the age of 3.
