Turns out Imagi Studios pitched an animated Zelda movie to Nintendo

Oddly enough, the video is private in some places. But I managed to get to watch it. Imagi studios(the studio behind the 2007 animated film of TMNT and Astro boy) tired to make a Legend of Zelda animated feature. They made this as the pitch for Nintendo. Oddly enough, it didn't get approved by the guys at the big N. Needless to say. I'm a bit surprised hearing about this now. I've always imagined an animated series of Zelda in the form of Samurai Jack could work. But a CG animated feature would require the right hands to do justice to the games.

Nintendo knows what it's doing, I agree with them in not wanting a Zelda movie whether it's animated or not. I mean look at Zelda CDi, nobody wants that again.

I want Zelda CDi. If only to play ironically.

Yes for the shits and gigs, but in all seriousness no one wants a second coming of it.

Good, a Zelda film wouldn't be a good film.

It'd be too different from the game.

Everyone would have talked about how terrible it would have been and then they would pay and support it by watching it, despite complaining about it. The circle of life.

Didn't much look like a Zelda title to me until they actually revealed Zelda.

Now I definitely know why Nintendo didn't want it. It was like a commercial for an arts institute. It made me cringe.

Its a PITCH video. It was only made to see if it got approved by Nintendo. If it did it would have been more like the games.

No it wouldn't have. If you pitch something the way it is that's probably what it's going to be stylized as. Think of it like this, it's like pitching Dr. Pepper then giving someone Pepsi, it wouldn't happen.

I'm not a huge fan of the character designs, but since this was a pitch video made more than 6 years ago I am really impressed. If they had actually made this into a movie, I would have gone to see it.

I'm assuming they re-textured some stock models to make the pitch video.

Personally I wouldn't have minded seeing a movie made of the franchise. There has been manga made of it so why not an animated movie?

Nintendo: No we don't want a Zelda movie. Let's just focus on making a million Pokemon anime movies. What? The show needs to end? That a conspiracy!
