Resident Evil, bitches!
#1
Is the thread title too much?

Ahem, anyway... This thread is for anything and everything about Resident Evil. Something to note is that I'm seriously obsessive about the series and I need to know literally everything about it. I also happen to like every single entry. Every. Single. One.

I lied. Resident Evil Missions and everyone related to its conception need to go die in a ditch. It's ridiculous how that game got another version and three sequels. Grumble grumble...

Seriously, I ain't gonna write down everything I think of the series (unless asked, of course), otherwise you'd be reading a full on novel here.

I don't have a problem with any of the entries either, accept of course the ones you mentioned you did. If anything my problem with the series, is that people keep running back to RE 4 to back them not liking 5 and 6, when in actuality, 4 wasn't really that big a deal until people realized the franchise was getting a style overhaul. Did you see the Resident Evil Damnation movie? I freaking loved it. I need to see if I can find it on blu-ray.

I've got that one on bluray. I kind of collect RE stuff but not to the extent of getting any of the games that are on systems I don't have. Well, apart from Sweet Home that I had to get imported from Japan. I do want a Famicom so I can play that though. Wow, I veered off the course hard time there :D

To answer in short, yes.

What character from the series do you like best?

I love everything Resident Evil (the movies...I liked the first two but that's about it, also the only CGI movie I was was the first one and I was pretty happy with how it went.)

I was introduced to Resident Evil around 2000 to 2001 when I went to a friend's house and he was playing Resident Evil Director's Cut on the PS1 and it freakin scared me to no end. Later on I found out my cousin had the 2nd one on the N64 and that was the first time I fell in love with the franchise, Mr. X encounters were always what I feared in that game. I rarely played RE3 but my friend did and I think that was his favorite because it had Carlos in it, maybe also Jill in a tube top, with the Nemesis battles that sometimes offered choices to how you want to handle the fight. That was a great way to really end the Raccoon City portion of the series before the franchise starts to take a new twist. Resident Evil Gaiden is fun for me, I do not care who hated it, for what it was I found it to be really well done. Sure there were no real scare moments but the ammo saving was so crucial or else you could literally not finish one of the last chapters before the finale. Outbreak and Outbreak File 2 are nice standalone titles to the franchise but I think some of the settings were a medicore where some of the other levels were so amazing, in the first game the hospital level and the woods levels are what I am talking about specifically and in File 2 I am looking at you Zoo/Subway levels.) not to mention the different endings for each character made the re playability so amazing. I never did try to co-op/online multiplayer but the concept was fantastic. Sadly I never played ANY of the FPS games like Survivor so I can't comment on those games but from the gameplay they sound interesting. Code Veronica was, in my opinion, the real final Resident Evil title for the longest time. Code Veronica added great atmospheres with new concepts like duel wielding guns. Not to mention seeing old characters again. Resident Evil 4 was, what I like to believe, the introduction to a new paradigm in the Resident Evil games. It introduced 3rd person over the shoulder camera angles, the ability to aim your gun to pinpoint key locations on enemies, new healing items outside of herbs, and most importantly, the introduction to secondary character NPCs with HP bars of their own. The escort part was bad in the way they portrayed Ashley but I do not believe escort concepts are BAD but they made her too annoying. The bits where you play her were unique to say the least.

I did not play 5 nor 6 because I hear both of them move even farther away from what the franchise even more so then 4 did so I have no opinion on them what so ever.

Revelations is the newest game to come out, re-released on consoles so shush, and that game is amazing to play. They combined both elements, the 3rd person over the shoulder camera view with the pinpoint aiming AND the monsters that make you remember old Resident Evil titles. They even added the new scan mechanic, forgot the name sorry, and that means you can find more ammo or whatever.

So far I think the franchise is starting to come back after REvelations.

Xannidel, if you haven't played RE5 and are not only in for the horror stuff, you should check it out but ONLY if you have a friend to play the game with. I found it to be one of the best in the series myself.

Definitely Carlos. It hurts me so bad how they handled him in the live action movies.

I know and I'm so bummed because if I had gotten them there for free I could have saved that money for getting the retail version imported from Japan.

Uh, all I've played is Resident Evil Revelations which I loved. Very fun, not scary though. Kinda disappointed by that.

I own the 1st, Code Veronica, Resident Evil 4 and that's it.

I played half of 5, but the ps3 crapped out on me and I lost my saves, so I don't want to play again.

Still, I wonder if I should finish Resident Evil 1...or even play them.

If you have a Gamecube you could go for the remake.

Eh, I don't know.

Is it like the Twin Snakes situation, where the original is better in some way, and the remake is better in others.

Trust me, the Resident Evil remake is better in every single way. Unless you're into unintended comedy and/or oldschool graphics, then I suggest the remake. It's also the canon version now since it revised a bunch of stuff from the original to fit better in the continuity.

The only reason I'm still playing my two versions of the original is because I don't have a GC.

The original is...well crap. The remakes on the GameCube won't make you laugh and are ideally what the creators were trying to go for.

Better way of saying it.

Love the Resident Evil series. Probably my favourite series from Capcom (above Megaman, Street Fighter and DMC for sure). RE4 to me being one of the best games ever played to the point I speedrun it on Twitch and can play it for hours. Plus have it on every platform it appeared on with additional promotion material an E3 demo of it.
Such a good game. :B

I hate the films though. Terrible. The CGI films suck too but, they don't feel insulting. As films like Resident Evil are more of moronic eye candy that cater to those that want films like Tron or Transformers.

I still don't agree with this statement, I still find a lot of enjoyment in playing the original. It's just no competition when it comes to the remake. Oh, and there's only one remake (and its Wii port), in case someone gets confused by the word "remakes".

Well there's a remake on the GameCube, PC, Wii, DS which are better than the original PS1/Sega Saturn game.
Resident Evil 2 and onwards is OK...but Resident Evil 1 is laughably bad. You'd play it to have fun with, rather than take seriously. As opposed to the re-release/remakes which are the better versions.

Games back then should be able to stand the test of time like Ocarina of Time, Final Fantasy 7, 8, and 9 and Metal Gear. Resident Evil 1 is just plain bad. Like C-movie bad. You are right though, there is still enjoyment to be had out of the original Resident Evil game, but for the wrong reasons.

"Wait Jill...don't open that door' HAAAAA. Even Capcom mock Resident Evil 1 in Dead Rising and quotes in later Resident Evil games.
