If this was the 90's then okay, it might get away with that "oh it's a stupid 90's film XD" and probably get a 5/10 and a cult following.
Because it isn't the 90's and people aren't stupid idiots, everyone can see through what it's trying to do. It's just taking a stupid concept, getting a stupid actor to help with said concept and trying to make it seem like a big epic thing we've never seen before.
It's not even that it's a video game movie or anything like that, I can already see from the synopsis that the film is terrible.
"When aliens intercept video feeds of classic arcade games and misinterpret them as a declaration of war, they attack Earth, using the games as models. Knowing that he must employ a similar strategy, President Will Cooper (Kevin James) recruits his childhood pal, former video-game champ and home-theater installer Sam Brenner (Adam Sandler), to lead a team of old-school arcade players (Peter Dinklage, Josh Gad) and a military specialist (Michelle Monaghan) to save the planet."
It's like what a 10 year old would write up. Futurama did it well because it was a dream and was meant to be stupidly unrealistic as well. It was a question Fry asked and the What If machine most likely catered the response to him (but fuck if I'm gonna explain Futurama Lore this early in the morning) it also had jokes and was pretty funny. This film really just seems retarded.
I may as well watch it just to see how bad it's going to be. I actually didn't mind Sandler films that much, Happy Gilmore, The Longest Yard, Billy Madison, Water Boy. They were okay films if you wanted a cheap laugh, but Sandler should just keep doing those films. Films that are good for a cheap laugh, not some "CGI video game attacking from space and im the greastest arcade player ever" or whatever it was.
