As a complete outsider when it comes to Nintendo consoles (not handhelds) after NES and as someone who really doesn't follow any news relating to them, all I can say is that I don't really see Nintendo dropping out from the scene or anything to that extent. They're too succesful for that.

Virtual console up tomorrow.

That's because Japan support their own country. Xbox fails there but is a success worldwide. Anything Japanese and the Japanese will blindly support it. the 3DS still isnt' that much of a seller either. Japan has a great games collection but in the west it's meh. The WiiU has terrible games or average at best, nothing really engaging.

I said this when the WiiU came out it'll end up like a Dreamcast. All of he best exclusives (especially third party) will be pointless since the other systems will get them.
The Dreamcast had games like Third Strike and MvC2 which eventually moved over to the other consoles and had more/better content. The same with the WiiU. I was going to get Ninja Gaiden 3: RE and Rayman Legends, only to find NG3: RE came out on Xbox(which i'm currently playing) and Rayman is being released for Xbox PS3 later this year (which I'll then get); meaning the WiiU failed with third party. With games like BioShock Infinite still waiting to come out on the system, it means the WiiU players are behind on release dates. When they do get games like Batman: Arkham City, they're late and often worse(the frame rate is a joke). With games like Far Cry 3 not even out for the WiiU, it just makes it the even lesser console.

As for First Party, NintendoLand is the same BS like Wii Sports and Wind Waker HD isn't anything to be that excited about since it's not a new Zelda.

Nintendo now not having a conference to showcase the WiiU/3DS games has pretty screwed them over. Extremely glad I didn't buy one on launch(and I know many others are the same). Heck, the WiiU Virtual Console is only coming out tomorrow....6 months AFTER launch. Nintendo WTF?

This just simply isn't true. Japan doesn't blindly support there consoles. (See PlayStation Vita) and the 3ds is doing great now at 31 Million (For comparison a 360 and PS3 which have been alive much longer have around 70 each) Theres no need for me to argue this. Though you are right the WiiU is failing, im sure it will make the same turn around the 3DS has.

The Wii U isn't really failing. It's just not doing so great because Nintendo launched it too early and didn't have the games to back it up.

They're there to focus on the gamers and the directs are open for anyone to watch. It's not like Nintendo says "If you're in the press and you watch this direct, you can't report on it." The Direct's are more straight to the point without any filler.
Millions was factoring in renting the building and having everything they use be set up. Paying the people to do that, etc. It's not cheap.
Yeah but this is Nintendo

"Yes, The Wii U is a $300 add-on to the Wii.... a console that launched at $250" Did the Kinect launch at a higher price point than the 360? No. Did Move launch at a higher price point than the PS3? No. Those are add-ons. Yes, Nintendo made a dumb decision with the name, but it was clear that it was a brand new console. Just idiots in the press were too dumb to not notice that. That... right there, is why they are not doing a conference this year. It's not the end of the world and Nintendo didn't say "We give up."
Yes, I do understand it's stupid. But again, it's a fair assumption to make. If you have no idea what the WiiU is, you would most likely assume it's an add-on for the Wii. WiiMotion+, WiiFit, WiiU etc. Even today it still isn't clear that WiiU is a new console, especially to the your Mum and Grandad who play the Wii. When the WiiU was first announced, some people I know who work in retail had customers asking what the WiiU is or assuming it was an add-on. But my overall point is, regardless if people are informed on the console or not, it still didn't sell well despite all the marketing behind it. Assume everyone knew it was a new console, it doesn't change the fact it hasn't sold well. So far, Hitman Absolution has sold more than the WiiU.

The way you word things makes you come off as an entitled little brat who thinks everything has to cater to him and him only. That's what's pissing me off. You post what you think (and that's fine) but most of the time, you lack logic.
I would be entitled but my initial post didn't state that I was wanting anything in return/should be owed anything by Nintendo and I did use sources before making a statement.

Isn't that what failing is though? Failing to meet their sales expectations by 2 million, failing to reach their target audience (us) and thus failing to bring the money in?

S'fine. I always find it funny when there's a heated debate(without the use of insults) that we should "calm down". Nothing wrong with pushing your points forward, if anything, it's what we need more off. I very VERY rarely think "oh yeah, that person is jerk".

I'm 100% positive that the Wii U will make a turn around. All they need to do is put the gamepad into people's hands and let them realize it's not nearly as gimmicky as it seems. I was somewhat apprehensive toward the Wii U until I tried Rayman Legends on it, now I'm more than certain that it will have my money when I have it.

Let's not forget that the 3DS had a similar start, once Nintendo starts supporting it with their own games (Star Fox, Metroid, Zelda etc.) people will start paying attention to it.

No, it's not, considering Nintendo tried to make it as clear as possible that it was a new console. You just don't understand how stupid it is to say that it was going to be an add-on to the Wii.

Also, it's Wii U, not WiiU.

Failing would be the console being out for 1 year+ and it still not selling well. It's been out for nearly 5 months. 5 MONTHS.

If I may interject...

The Wii U being considered an 'add-on' for the Wii might seem stupid to us, but think about the casual audience, i.e. part of what made the Wii so successful. These people don't keep up on gaming news or updates in the least. When they hear the name "Wii U", like Cody said, they likely link it to things like WiiMotion+ or other thing with Wii in its name--an add-on. Even the smallest amount of research would show someone that it's a new console (even if they think the Wii U is just the GamePad being an add-on, the huge price tags should raise a flag)... but the general populace is probably not going to do that.

...I don't really have any thoughts on how that would affect sales or anything, because it'll likely clear itself up in a year or so, but I wanted to add that. :)

It's not something that affected sales in the first place anyways. What affected sales was it launching too early with nearly no support from first party or third party.

The name was only slightly part of the problem. You can have hardware all you want, but if you don't have the software to back it up, it's not going to do well.

A great example of this is the Vita. It's been out for well over a year and it hasn't sold over 2 million in Japan yet whereas the Wii U, in the 5 months it has been out in Japan alone, has sold close to a million.

I'm just gonna put this here while this console derail is going on.

Which has been my main point. Even for everyone who knew about the truth in that the Wii U(<-) not being an add-on, it still didn't sell. It was supposed to appeal to us and hasn't because of all the reasons I mentioned in my initial post. Therefore, it's a Dreamcast. Whenever it does get third party support, it's ported to the other systems.

No, it's not. The Wii U has only been out for 5 months. It's a dreamcast when it's been out for over a year and still has piss-poor numbers.

Nintendo's going to need a big First Party Nintendo game that's not a rehash if they want to raise the sales of the Wii U.
