Personally speaking, I never enjoyed these smash speculation, theories or leaks because the fan base always seem to have a "holier than thou" mentality. So to see a reveal like that is just so damn funny. I'm actually gonna main it alongside Megaman and The Belmonts.

You see, I agree with you for the most part. This is probbly Sakurai's trump card for everyone screaming "I want Issic," "I want Geno," "I want Heihachi." It's a good out of no where character that nobody saw coming, Like Mr. Game & Watch, Wii Fit Trainer, R.O.B., and Duck Hunt. It's a thing that Sakurai does for each game. Also, this feels like a response to the Bandanna Dee requests.

That being said, Why Perana Plant? Why not Tatanga from Super Mario Land, Mach Rider, Excitebike, Mike from Startropics? You have a grand catalog of games and IPs you can pull from. Are you telling me that Nester, someone that, granted, not a lot of people outside of the US is going to know much about, but still has a big impact on a bunch of gamers, isn't a good pick?

I'm happy to have a new fighter no matter who it is, but to paraphrase someone, "With Piranha Plant as a fighter, it opens the gate to have a Tektite from Zelda, a Metroid, a Motobug from Sonic, and a Metool from Megaman as fighters." Why does Klaptrap have to be an assist trophy but Piranha Plant doesn't? I just don't want it to turn into Mario Party, where you have the main characters, the main villains, and then random enemy minions to fill up the roster.

Yeah, I did like it because it definitely was the WTF Character. It just doesn't make sense and I love it.

As for the Why Piranha Plant? It's that line of thinking that I never liked when revealing a fighter, especially when it comes to Smash. Like take Tekken 7, where they revealed that Negan from the Walking Dead is going to become a playable character, the reception was basically "Why Negan? Why not this Tekken Veteran or this Reasonable Guest Fighter from such and such". It's most likely done because it's just fun having a trump slot. I just like thinking that even though I will most likely never play Isabelle, Ridley, Inkling or King K. Rool, It is comforting that there IS somebody out there having the time of thier life finally getting the chance to play thier main fighter, no matter how dumb that perceived character is(looking at Piranha Plant).

EDIT: I will say that even if it was a more obscure Generic Enemy or odd Character from a different medium(Ex.Nester), I honestly feel that it would have produce the same result for the fanbase. Just because it wasn't a Character that garner traction during the oh so wonderful Hype Train.
So, I have the game pre-ordered at Best Buy, but I will need to go in and cancel it. I pre-purchased it Thursday and have it downloaded. I told myself I'm going back to physical, but when it comes down to games that I know I will play the shit out of, they are downloaded from now on. Animal Crossing will also be downloaded next year.
Sakurai has announced via Twitter that the line-up of DLC fighters has already been decided.
Though, unlike previous entries, all of the characters were chosen by Nintendo rather than him.

He also (politely) asked for people to stop spamming him and others with character requests.

This make me wonder. If Nintendo is picking the fighters and not Sakurai or the fan ballot, what would they choose? If I had to take a big guess, it would be all first party characters and nothing from Square, Rare, Wayforward, or any other popular 3rd party  developers. I can't imagen Nintendo would want to spend any more on royalties (or however this is working) just to make people happy when they can add Yarn Yoshi and Professor E. Gadd to promote their own games.

Still, we can hope that the Nintendo Microsoft friendship is a true thing and Nintendo won't just put in Goomba & friends.
Several reports have confirmed that multiple copies of Ultimate have broken street date internationally.
Not only that, but the game's files have already been dumped online and have begun to be datamined.

If you're the type who doesn't like to be spoiled, I would suggest either staying off of social media for next two weeks or installing a spoiler blocker.

If you're interested in staying un-spoiled, I've shared my Spoiler Blocking setup below.
LEAK/DATAMINE UPDATES:

All of World of Light's cutscenes have been leaked on to YouTube. Avoid searching for it and add "World of Light" to any Spoiler Blocker you may have.

The SSB Wiki has started to catalog all of the leaked info, avoid going there if you don't want to be spoiled.

Twitter users have started posting spoilers under the hashtags #SmashSpoil and #SmashSpoiler. Twitter allows you to mute certain keywords by entering them here.
It's just 2 days til Smash Ultimate make its proper release.

Looking forward to playing Squad Strike, reminds me of how the King of Fighters plays and I find it the most appropriate format, especially with the amount of playable fighters.

Huh, what a strange choice. I thought that if they were going to introduce an Atlus character into the game, it would be someone like Jack Frost because he is the mascot of the company. Oh well, I guess he is going to be added as a spirit.

But anyway, does this mean we are getting a Nintendo Switch port of Persona 5 soon?

EDIT: it should be noted that not only Atlus is in good terms with Nintendo, but that Persona Q2 (a 3DS exclusive featuring Joker) was released in Japan. So there's that.

A bit off topic, and third time overall someone has said this, but okay. Can we please rename this thread SUPER SMASH BROS. ULTIMATE? Hey, Colossus! You can change the title since you made the thread, just edit the OP.
So Piranha Plant was released yesterday and I think he handles pretty well for what should be a very clunky joke character. I'm still not giving up Lucina or Simon to main him, but I can see him going pretty far with professional players. I found out it has it's own "Palutena's Guidance" on the Pit stage, so the DLC characters are getting their own easter eggs this time unlike for Smash 4. Sadly I don't think it was added to World of Light, which kinda sucks since I kinda wanted to use all the DLC from the start of the adventure mode. At lest it has it's own Classic mode and can be used in the Spirit Board.

Edit: Apparently you can play as it in World of Light. I booted up my finished file for WoL instead of starting a new file and it said I could play as it. I just don't know how you unlock him normally.
Yo. To any one not in the know, Piranha Plant has been said to corrupt your data. I've read that it's only on the digital version of the game and only if you play WoL and Classic mode with Piranha Plant or Century Smash mode as either Mii Swordfighter or Duck Hunt, but be careful just in case.

Six months have passed since then and there are still no news about whatsoever about any mainline Persona games being released for the Switch. And yes, I said mainline games, so spin-off like Persona Q does not count.

It doesn't even need to be Persona 5 Royal, just the first version of the game with some tweaks. Or a port of previous titles like P4G, that could work too.

Going back to the subject of SSBU, I know I'm late but here's the Joker presentation. Can't believe I didn't post this one here before.

Not a single reference to Persona 1 and 2. No spirits. No Mii costume. No songs. Nothing.

"Persona 1? Persona 2? What are you talking about? We all know that the Persona series started with Persona 3, the same way Final Fantasy started with 7!" - Atlus, probably

And Jack Frost was never added to Ultimate either, not even as a spirit. Smh.
I know I'm a bit late r.e. the Piranha Plant glitch, but people are also saying you get similar problems with Mii Swordfighter and Duck Hunt on certain modes.

This talk of glitches is making me very nervous about these characters - do any of you have any experience/evidence etc... on this?

On a side note, who's excited for Hero and Banjo-Kazooie as DLC fighters? I certainly am!

I am. DQ representation in Smash is long overdue, specially when you consider the fact that DQ CREATED the JRPG genre. Also, DQ games are still released on Nintendo systems on a regular basis, so that's another reason to include The Hero.

As for Banjo... I certainly did not expect him in the game because Microsoft. A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one.
