I figured this departure would mean the end of the show, but guess not. I decided to check in and see what has become of the show since I stop caring, and it's hardly a show about video games now as it's a show with video games in the background while two guys who happen to be internet famous makes noises for 10 or so minutes. The show's terrible.
-There's hardly any discussion about the game itself, and they break off into tangents that are either vaguely tied to the game or not at all.
-There's a ton of episodes where no progress is made, because they're trying to juggle learning the game while being entertaining and it's not working. (While fans say it does, they're more than likely there to listen to their voices. Yes, not so much listen to them talk, but to just hear them speak and say anything that could be turned into a GG animated skit or some dumb meme to spam in the comments.)
-Most of the game footage is unedited and when it is it's sped up footage instead of just cutting it out. You can fit more content (where progress is made) in a episode if you just cut it out. Trim that shit out.
You could say that the point of show is just two guys just hanging out and playing video games for the internet, but if you're gonna do that at least do games where one of you is competent enough at the game so it doesn't drag on and you end up canceling the playthrough.
This seems almost hypocritical of me, because I love Lowtax's playthrough of
Cry of Fear. On one hand they do everything I just said, but on the other they manage to keep things on track. Some of the boring bits are cut out, most of the commentary is focused on the game, (Though it's mostly neagtive about the game and its design decisions) when they break off into a tangent unrelated to the game it's for a joke or pun that lasts for about a minute, and significant progress is always made in each update.
In the end I think Game Grumps' idea of making
playthrough Let's play videos was based on the
Youtube standardâ„¢ and while they first thought that
let's play is a bad thing; noone seemed to cared because, "Hey it's Egoraptor and Jontron!"
