^ Hahaha, oh, I can imagine... It's no surprise to anyone, but I am THAT kind of fangirl. I can't help but have my ships, even if it's not canon. Personally... I like EdgeyxGumshoe and I might have gone running to pixiv for some FulbrightxSimon fanart... *cough* ...At one point on eBay I even saw a ManfredxGregory doujin.
...And then there's my stash of Adachi doujins, but anyway...
Wow, you are really just cruising through this game! I'm not terribly far into case 3. I was amazed at how much I LOVED case 2! Yay for
and... Trucy is becoming tolerable?! They really blew her debut in AJ, but now that I'm seeing more what she's like as a person and not always just a joke who keeps talking about magic panties, she's really not that bad.
I really felt a small stab in my heart to see how much Maya looks like Mia now. She's grown up so much and yet has become even brattier somehow. Pearl is still my precious angel, though.
I will never, ever, remember his name, but the new prosecutor annoys me; probably because of all the religion stuff. Of course I'm interested to know what his relationship to Apollo is, though.
xD Japan and their sibling fetish... I'm still crazy annoyed at how Phoenix is dragging his ass telling them but he HAS to say something by the end of this game... Right?

I mostly want to finish it so I can discuss it with people online. I know only you and possible a few others would play the game this early on, so I'm not that worried about spoilers.
Trucy was always fine in my book. She was a fun contrast to Apollo and would have interesting stories about herself and Phoenix if you examined stuff and looked into it.

Well, she is one year older than her now. Shame the first case you meet her in doesn't have her as a companion except in the courtroom. Plus, Phoenix and Maya don't talk about their past. It would be nice for people to ask, and for them to speak their opinion.
My favourite line was when she said "I've grown out of those "ladder" arguments we had, Nick" and Phoenix responds with "I think you mean "Step-Ladder"". Brought a smile to my face.

Ah yeah, Sad Monk. It's kind of his job to be like that though. The third case gives a lot more insight into him and Apollo, and it's expanded more in the 5th case. Plus, the 5th case has you going back to a certain location in an older game which is nice.
xD Japan and their sibling fetish... I'm still crazy annoyed at how Phoenix is dragging his ass telling them but he HAS to say something by the end of this game... Right?
Hopefully
Incidentally, if you're like me and examine and present stuff all the time, make sure you do it all the time with different characters. Even if you've examined stuff before and Apollo/Phoenix are like "I've already checked here". Just do it anyhow. You can get several people to talk about it if they're in the area.
Working so much is making progress so painfully slow but I'm enjoying the third case so much, even if it's also tough on me since it seems so hopeless for Maya, but it wouldn't be a Phoenix Wright game if he didn't rise from ashes at the very last moment to prove his client innocent. I know it can't end any other way, but still I just want to get to that point and see Maya and Phoenix go home together.
I've decided I'd rather not see the Incite gimmick become a thing. Maybe it's just me, but I am having some difficulty pointing out exactly what the game wants me to at that very moment for example:
When viewing the second séance right away I realized the victim was in that secret room and not praying on the mountain with the others when he died. It didn't want me to point out that contradiction of where he was yet, but rather the time instead. I've done that a few times.
Then the princess's insights are kind of stupid because of all the "Oh, whoops, I guess I am wrong about this tiny little detail. I'll go ahead and change it.". It's like she's giving phony evidence right away and it's just another thing I have to trudge through.
At the end of this game there'd better be heavy smack-down because no doubt this rotten country has imprisoned/executed a lot of innocent people.
As they say. It's just another piece of evidence, and evidence can be true but interpreted wrong, and it can be falsified.
In other news the 5th case feel like fanfiction. Not that I'm complaining, but it really does feel like I wrote it when I was 13.
Spoiler:So, Phoenix is the prosecutor. OH OH, AND UH APOLLO has to defend the client. OH OH and the reason Phoenix is the bad guy is because Maya is in danger again, OH OH, and you get to meet Pearl, and Maya and Edgeworth again, OH and then afterwards, the leader of the rebels needs to go back to Khu'rain, and the only way he could do that is by Edgeworth securing a private plane, being the head prosecutor and all. Oh, and then when they get there Maya and the rebel leader and involved in ANOTHER murder where they were inside a locked room and and.....
I mean, I'm enjoying it. I've enjoyed the game so far but this last case feels so weird.
^ Must... Resist.... Looking... At... Spoiler...
I'm on the 4th case now! OMG, big brother Simon looking after Athena is ADORABLE. If only my Bobby could be there as well... *Sob*
Mr. Putrid Prosecutor is on his way to taking the Glimorous Fop's place as my least favorite prosecutor. HE'S SUCH A DICK BULLYING ATHENA. I don't think the Holy Mother would approve!
As much as I enjoyed the 4th case. I really felt cheated it a 1 day trial. Like seriously, all 4th cases (apart from T&T due to cart limitations) have been at least a 2 day investigation and trial. I felt really annoyed that the second to last case was just one trial.
But yeah, the spoiler is just me summing up the first part of the 5th case. I'll continue trivializing the 5th case when I'm finished with it, because it's totally fanfiction at this point.
Not that's I'm complaining. I sure as hell couldn't write this.
Incidentally, the final case feels like it's trying to live off the best parts of 1-4 and 2-4 in one whole case. It's kind of coming off short because of it, mostly because it's been done before and it's trying to fit several parts of both of those cases into one case with little time to expand on any of them.
I gotta say though, this game introduced some of the CUTEST girls to the AA series yet, and some of the bestest's bros. Spoiler:Dhurke and Datz are wayyy up there for being loyal peeps taking everything in stride. All in one game too.
Spoiler:Also, Maya has never met Apollo in the two years he has worked at the Wright Anything Agency. Probably the same deal with Athena
Well, I just finished the game. I was sadly right with what I was talking about with the 5th case.
Here's my final opinion on all cases and such.
Case 1 was an incredibly long case. Might be the longest intro case in the series to date. I had no real gripes with it other than the fact it was long. It introduced the main concepts of the DCA and had Phoenix being Phoenix protecting the weak and such and such.
Case 2 was a fun case, and I really enjoyed seeing the technical aspects of the game. Bonny and Betty being cross examined together, as well as Trucy's whole testimony were something else. I was really shocked and impressed at what they were able to accomplish. Plus, I've been wondering when Apollo would get to defend Trucy since it seems like something that SHOULD have happened in his own signature game.
Case 3 was a cool case. I enjoyed seeing Maya channel someone. Like ACTUAL channel someone. I've always wondered how it would work on a guy, and was pleasantly surprised. The case was somewhat predicable, but the final twist was not. Plus, Datz character was great, and I'm happy I got to see him in the 5th case.
Case 4 was a short case and I didn't like that at all. But Simon being an assistant, and the whole flow of the case, as well as Athena being pretty much alone to handle the whole thing was a plus in my book. She needed to have a case to prove herself in. Since, it was a 1 day trial, there wasn't much to accuse but I did suspect the wrong person for the majority of the case. So there's always that.
Case 5, as I said. Felt like fanfiction. However, it doesn't mean it's not a great case. Apollo vs Phoenix, as hype as it was fell kind of short once you knew Maya was in danger, and the way you got out of it felt kind of cheap. In 2-4 you had to present a specific piece of evidence to Shelly De Killer, to not only save Maya's life but also convict the right person. You basically outplayed Matt Engarde, whereas to outplay the bad guy here. It was a series of routes to the answer, you didn't have to think of anything. I never really liked the thought resonance thing, but I guess it's the make the gameplay easier or whatever.
As the case progressed and you won. Phoenix then had a secondary role through the case. I get it was an Apollo case, and damn he deserved as much backstory and main character action since he didn't get any of it in his own damn game, and he of course left the WAA to go to make his own firm, so this was probably the big step forward he needed.
The twists and turns for the case were really cool, but I felt they also fell pretty short due to being wayyyy to predictable half the time. When the Queen showed her true form, I instantly knew it was her. The game tried to sway it in different directions, but I always had my eyes on her throughout the game, and during the entire trial I could see 10 steps ahead and was just waiting to get to step 11 so I could see the next 10 steps. I guess playing the series for 9 years does that for you.
I enjoyed the reasoning to why Nahyuta acted as he did, and loved it when he switched sides and instantly said "A DRAGON NEVER YIELDS" sent a smile to my face and chills down my spine. Also, the amount of violence in this game was something else. Seeing two people get shot, and Phoenix and Apollo held at gunpoint while they continued their trial. It was something else.
It ended quite well, it's interesting to see Apollo get his own law firm in another country. This will mean Khu'rain will get another appearance in another game (or possibly, we'll never see it again. Who knows). As for Phoenix and Athena, they'll probably be there in the next game, as long as they don't try and introduce ANOTHER main character for us to play as. Then, we have to have 4 at a time. If Apollo has anything to do in the next game.
But yeah, here's hoping for the next game to have more time for Athena to shine, and possibly some mixups like new characters vs old ones, as well as some re-appearances. I'd love to see Gumshoe or Franziska back.
My rankings for the games would be something like this, but could change as time goes on.
AA > AAI2 > T&T > SoJ >= PLvsPW > DD > AAI = JFA > AJ
Also, submitted my first trivia for this game just now.
>< I gotta hurry so we can have a proper discussion. I just started the 5th case before work. I guess I do need to either read a recap or replay Apollo Justice because I'm confused why nothing registered with Trucy when she heard her father's name. I thought she ended up with him and Apollo was kind of left to the wolves after that incident. Since I can't remember I'm a tad confused.
I was super, super close to abandoning this series after DD, but I'm glad I stayed on. Even if I have to deal with less stuff to examine and extremely dumbed down game play I am enjoying myself. Here's character relationships being a focus again.
The first set of DLC came out this week. Release schedule, and cost.
9/15 – “Phoenix Wright: Asinine Attorney” short story and 3DS theme ($3.99) £3.49
9/22 – “Apollo Justice: Asinine Attorney” short story and 3DS theme ($3.99) £3.49
9/29 – “Turnabout Time Traveler” full-length extra episode ($5.99) £5.49
You get a free theme with each one. The first one gives you the "Pixel" theme.
Playing for a few minutes, I can tell you guys the short stories are just people talking. It's the VN part of Phoenix Wright for the amazing price of 3 hundred and 99 US pennies.
Oh, I was wrong. There is a trial part of it, but goodness. It's pretty damn stupid.
DGS is getting a fucking sequel.
I mean, that's great and all BUT WHEN THE FUCK IS THE FIRST GAME COMING OVER HERE CAPCOM
I'm hating all this cognitive dissonance right now. I probably won't be able to play it until the decade is up.
I finished the game, but I'm too tired to really go in-depth about it right now. I'll just say that I immensely enjoyed this entry. Yeah, the final case had a lot that was predictable, but one thing I didn't expect hurt so much. I can appreciate Apollo as a character now after this. That's for sure.
I'll probably just buy the full length case for the DLC and call it good.
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
The first three games are getting released for the Switch and PS4! They're up for pre-order on Japanese sites AND come with the English version!
Capcom has always been so stupid with Phoenix Wright in the US I don't know what to do. Do you guys think we'll get a physical copy or should I go ahead and order a collector's edition from Japan?
