Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon
#16
So it's the afternoon after the party... There was a pretty small turnout of press, but there was an open bar, lazers, cyborgs, and a lot of ass kicking. Ubisoft know how to throw a party.

It's not DLC. It's an XBLA, PSN game (It's also on PC, just giving it its sub-category on the consoles).

i know the game has far cry3 gameplay and aspects but why put far cry 3 in the title. Like GTA tlad and tbogt they are XBLA and PSN and pc games but they have to do with the story. How does blood dragon even relate to far cry 3?

It's the same exact engine as Far Cry 3 and it uses LOTS of assets from Far Cry 3 as well. Even though it has absolutely nothing to do with Far Cry 3, they probably just put it there for marketing reasons. Easier to sell.

This game is great. It's full of the right kind of homage, and the AI is great. If the real Rare still existed this is the kind of stuff they would be making.

The music and sound is so cool:

Power Glove performed Blood Dragon's soundtrack and it's never been more fitting.

I don't know why this made me laugh so hard last night, but I threw a dice to distract an enemy, and the words that came out of his mouth were something like "Oh my god."

And then I noticed you can upgrade the shotgun to have a quad-barrel...

I beat it this afternoon and completed all the extra stuff.

The music and sound design made it for me, and the concept of course. The visual filter got a little hard on the eyes after awhile, but the game runs better than Far Cry 3 does on PS3, so that's one thing. I love all this Terminator/Cyborg/Escape From NY/Predator/etc stuff, though... such a well cooked medley.

Give me more animal types, slightly larger island, a little variance in the aesthetic as needed, and give me CHUDS & T1000 metal skeletons out in the field there to go with the Blood Dragon concept. Raptors, some Tokyo Jungle stuff going on.

The story missions could use some Goldeneye and Perfect Dark in the mission design, with replayable maps, tier objectives and ranking... to give the game some real depth and legs beyond the fun emergent gameplay found in acquiring garrisons.

There's absolutely nothing to do when you clear out all the garrisons, nab the island collectibles, and clear story... empty island, no battles and emergent gameplay. It convinced me to finally buy Far Cry 3 instead of waiting for a price drop because I just wanted to play more missions.

Ending kinda sucked... was "epic" but not fulfilling. I wish it had been a $60 retail game with more time put in it and more to do with the things I would like to see in it. Better than DLC, feels like the best mod ever that just happens to be $15 bucks... couldda been GOTY if it was full blown.

I was also pissed that the VHS tapes I was collecting, that I waited til 100% to look at, weren't animated shorts from the Saturday Morning Cartoon-style promo material Ubisoft made for it. Totally missed opportunity to give me 12 episodes wtf!

Some of the corny-ironic one-line dialogue for kills and explosions is so embarrassing if people are around... that was too much, but some was funny. 90% of the retro here is amazing, 10% of it is for idiots. I dug it, though... a lot. So far there's things I like about it wayyy more than Far Cry 3.

When I saw the trailer for that game I was like

"Well that's about enough life for me today lemme check the time yeah its about that time" (jumps into explosion)
No really was ubisoft playing some kind of joke on us?

this game looks sick, but at the same time it doesn't, at least for me. I dont really like space/future shooting games. when the guns look stupid or they shoot lazers, it doesnt seem as cool to me. but idk. im still definitely getting this, and I loved farcry3

I don't think the pistol shoots lasers. So far, the only guns that actually shoots lasers is the assault rifle and a turret. Otherwise everything else is just regular bullets. Though the shotgun can have fire bullets and the sniper has explosive bullets. And then you have a freaking minigun.

The game is just epic.
