Lamiroir continuity error
#1
Okay so apparently a game screen and a link to another trivia site were not enough. Time to go to specifics!

Lamiroir is clearly stated as being blind in Chapter 3 where this continuity error appears. Yet, she still mentions how Apollo's expression changed while Machi Tobaye is being questioned.

AA Wikia page for Lamiroir, where her blindness is mentioned multiple times in the text and under her profile. Check "eye color".

Direct link to the scene in the game. You are free to watch the other videos if you want to see if this discrepancy is mentioned or explained, though I can assure you it isn't. Source being me who just beat the chapter in my own game. Also the videos.

The AA fact site mentioning this little omission of previously stated facts. There's one comment on this page that says "I’m pretty sure Lamiroir says something to the extent that Apollo’s gaze is so piercing she can “feel” it at the end of the case." but this is not something that actually happened. The fact was never brought up again after she said what she said. Proof of this are the videos I linked to above.

As an icing on the cake, here's a screenshot of the exact moment.

Did I mention she is totally, completely and utterly blind?

At one point she also recognized a lump of plastic as a cocoon replica, though that she could have done via feel. Then again, this would mean she has also touched an actual cocoon of this exact kind before AND that she somehow knew from the feel of what was literally something that could have been mistaken for a plastic egg with ridges that it was a cocoon replica of a specific cocoon. But I digress. This part would be harder to prove anyway.

Anyone who has previously beaten the game can add their testimonies about the case at hand. Testimonies will be cross-examined.

I wonder if this is a result of an oversight during translation, or if the developers confused themselves with the twist. You'd think they would have checked and double-checked their facts, considering that the gameplay actually depends on it, rather than the story being merely ancillary as it is in many games.

While the English text very much implies that she can see his eyes, it's possible that the original Japanese is more in line with the one commenter's memory -- that she can "feel" his gaze. If someone could find the original script, I could take a whack at translating that portion. I have some basic skill with Japanese.

Another error I've always wondered about is in the first game where Manfred von Karma mentions he has a granddaughter who named her dog Phoenix. Seeing as Franziska, his only child, is 19 in the second game it shows poor planning for the sequel.

But yeah... I wasn't too impressed with all the mistakes that were made with typos and such in the English versions so I agree it's a strong possibility that someone goofed in translation. If someone didn't catch that "When you were in a child error" I really question just how much they cared.

I agree. Theres one mistake that I'm wondering why no one has sumited yet. It's in Apollo Justice and it involves Eldoon's noodle stand being being Maya's favorite place to eat. This was a lost in translation moment.

Good point, actually. I would give you a video but it's kinda hard to find one without actually knowing Japanese myself. I mean, searching with just "Gyakuten Saiban 4" yields little to no results in this matter.

If a translation error is really what happened here, I wonder how that whole plastic egg scene went in the original.
