Really points that he brought up but then also some of them just seemed trivial or even bad game design. I found his point about the chests to be trivial. There's so many reasons why OoTs chest are animated the way they are such as: progress in technology, add more emphasis on finally getting an item and so much more. ALttP had no real fanfare for doing well. It felt like a flat victory. I agree with his side though. Sometimes you just wanna grab the item quickly and go but really? A 10 second animation is too much? He only ever mentions big chests. Not small chest either which are significantly shorter than big chest animations.
Also, his point about adding Goron companion would no only have made worse. So much worse that I can't even begin to fathom the level of frustration that would've come from that. He makes about about camera angels yet not being able to see your companion, yet watch out for the environment, watch out for the traps AND target the only would only have made for controller breaking moments. Not only that but when you enter a fight with a Wolfos/Iron Knuckle, it's 1 v 1. Having you're companion there would result in 2 v 1 fight. You'd lose the sense of personal development you gained because you had help. But may also result in your accidentally targeting your ally(which would've obviously be a function).
Lastly, I'm gonna be that guy but ALBW is a really REALLY REALLY shallow and superficial Zelda game. It's one of the few times it bothers me that people praise that game when it's just a huge fan service with little to none of the Zelda spirit. It lacks any of the spark and wonder that the other games had- especially ALttP. I'm surprised EgoRaptor fell for such an obvious "Nintendo trap" rather than actually critically reviewing that game too. At one point he even shows the part where you have to use the painting technique to get around an obstacle while on a moving platform. That's just a puzzle thrown in our face with the solution obviously in front of you the same way OoT does. It's not even challenge. It's just a pretend way of putting in difficulty. What context is there for a wall to be sticking out of another wall. All of the dungeons felt conviently designed for the painting mechanic.
The way he talks about Zelda 1 makes me think of Demons Souls though. Generally a good video. It's the kind of criticism you can take on and actually understand their viewpoint on, rather than have them rant(despite the over exaggeration and comedy added). Zelda/Nintendo need more criticisms put towards their games. It's stuff like this (a long with MatthewMatosis) that make the Zelda games feel worthy of discussing in depth. It changes my perspective on points I may miss and actually like the game even more.
Edit: And Majoras Mask is best.
Edit Edit: And fuck Skyward Sword. So glad he raged at Skyward Sword.
