Where do you see this site in 5 years?

Personally, I felt that by only having a Tumblr (and the occasional YouTube video) as its main source of posting content, DYKG was really limited in its scope and ability to convey information, especially in bigger chunks than what can fit on a single image. Yes, I know there were forums where you guys posted in-depth research, but how many people actually posted there as opposed to just scrolling through images on the main Tumblr?
I feel like a site like this is the natural next step. DYKG expands its scope beyond simple "Did You Know...?" type segments to become more research-oriented, while VGR brings in its ripping/digging experience and we both work together to become the biggest, most comprehensive videogame research site on the internet. I do think that there will have to be more expansions in the future (perhaps even to a wiki-style main site with individual detailed information pages for each game) but for now, I think things are headed in the right direction.

Either dead or on the top of video gaming forums/websites. Hoping for the ladder!

Personally it would either be dead, merged with somewhere like The Cutting Room Floor to make an even larger site dedicated everything gaming research wise maybe except for unknown developers (that's covered elsewhere) or it will be still around. It will be bigger and more traffic will come in but the community will change with some people going even some mods/admins so it will have a different feeling than now. Since it is still early days, it is hard to tell.
Hopefully not like another forum that I know that started off being a video editing site run by someone from Jersey where it was a small community but had charm to 5 years in the present where it is a larger mostly American injoke based Something Awful Jr mixed with hints of 4Chan where it is so fragmented where it is an inner circle on pretty much each section on the forum and if you don't fit into a template, you don't fit at all.

Not that I hate that or anything, smaller forums are quite nice albeit lack of discussion. As for the chat, I guess the discord counts.

Man, it feels weird knowing that we've been at this for so long. In my mind the DYKG forum was a really long experience, but we've been at this for almost 3 times longer than that.

I really wish forums weren't dying as a primary means of communication online but unfortunately, the trend is real-time chat. Platforms like Discord are great for quick interaction directly with members of the community but I really love the forum format for more in-depth conversation. As for the site getting smaller, it definitely has but I think that again, it's largely due to the decline of forums as a whole and the inability to find anyone to go through submissions with the appropriate background who will actually stick around for more than a month or two. This site had huge potential to be integral in creating new DYKG videos (which was really its original purpose) but it's kind of stagnated and isn't really able to fulfill that role at this point. Still, I do like smaller communities where everyone is comfortable with everyone and there's a general laid-back atmosphere. I've been a member of huge forums where it's difficult to keep up with everything going on. |
