Stop with single image replies.
#1
I am putting my foot down on this one, because it is another reason this community is not engaging well. We need to stop letting Google image search be our form of communication. Please, try to actually spend some time in your replies beyond finding a picture and posting it.

We are all human beings, can we act like it and talk to each other, rather than just show pictures to each other? We aren't Reddit, 4Chan, or 9Gag. Leave that kind of attitude to those places.

I will be issuing warns to anybody who posts a reply where it isn't really the purpose of the topic in this nature. If you want to post a response in an image, that is fine as long as you actually write out your opinions in the same post - it really shouldn't need stating, this is common courtesy.

I've banned Arjahn for 24 hours. This isn't a joke.

Is this really such a big issue? I really don't understand the problem if the image pertains to the situation.

The problem is that if everybody responds with a single image as a reply, you're going to just see a string of images, completely devoid of personality. There are moments where it's appropriate, like the funny image thread, but to respond to everything with an image just makes the site look like an image board. And it isn't.

If you have something to respond with, take the 2 minutes it takes to find an appropriate image to actually voice your real opinion or feelings. As I said, we're a message board, not 4Chan.

Yes.

Yes it is.

These doesn't really say anything other than you folks are able to image leech and that you like dumb memes; not to mention images take longer to load a page than text. [Image: fyhMukh.gif]

While we're on the topic, can we make a rule or at least encourage posters to NOT chain quote large images or posts? It happens a fair bit, and nearly nobody takes the time to edit out the img tags or trim down a long wall of text.

Heaven forbid people are celebrating and having fun. Yes, this is truly a big issue where other members are becoming offended and shit's being thrown.

Oh, and I laughed Arjahn. Well, if you hopefully see this.

You're right. I'll go back to keeping my opinion to myself.

Don't act like you're some sort of victim. You did this before with the other thread, so just say what you will without using the excuse "I'll offend someone" or anything along those lines. I'm trying to see why it's a big issue that you consider people celebrating and having fun a "big issue".

You make it out like you can't have fun by conversing. Please read what I have already stated as to why this rule is being instated. We aren't being the fun-police - we're trying to improve the quality of posts on the forum.

If you have further concerns, I'm more than happy to address them, be it via PM or in this thread.

You can have fun doing both. There's no fun in trying to make all your posts "SUPER SERIOUS" nor do I really care about the "quality of the posts" as if my posts were to be looked at by different judges. Do you really care about how other people/places perceive the forum that much? Nobody's hurting each other and there has been no previous drama other than the Zombie Riot mess. It's just pointless rules being enforced.

Oh, and banning Arjahn like that was dumb. It's not like he was insulting you or anything and he was just having fun.

You don't have to post "SUPER SERIOUS" - just don't post an image you found and thought was funny as a response to everything - you not caring about the quality of posts isn't our concern. We are thinking of the forum overall, not how you feel - please consider other people.

And yes, we do care what people think of our community, and our website. It's important that we provide what is wanted by the vast majority, and contain order and structure to everything within our site. This is not a pointless rule, and one which the majority of the staff have been well in agreement on for a long time.

Please feel free to join an image board should you wish to post image upon image in the hopes of a response.

Oh, and we didn't ban Arjahn. We suspended him for 24 hours. Please read the post in which this is stated quite clearly.

Yes, I am. If it was only me, I wouldn't really care and would just go to a different forum. Just look at the mods and members who were posting pictures. If they tell me that they didn't have fun with that at all (which were a good chunk of people), then I'll believe that it's only me.

Do the mods agree with all this? They were very frequent posters in the chit chat thread and posted quite often pictures as worth noting in Matt's links. Unless you're just referring to the three admins.

Yes, I can very clearly read and that looks like the word "banned".

I for one agree with the decision to close the chit-chat thread. I think that its closure has been conducive to more in-depth participation in other threads. The things talked about in that thread can more often than not be included in another thread.
I liked the chit-chat thread, I like the lack of chit-chat thread. I'm an easy goer :)

I also back the decision to stop single-image posts for posts that did not add much to the conversation. Like most good and fun things in life, it was tarnished by excess, which is why it was deemed necessary to take action.

Now, what I'm personally not against, are single-image posts that have text underneath that add to the conversation. If I posted a video of me doing the macarena, rather than just replying with only a gif displaying your disgust, you could post the gif with something below along the lines of "SERIOUSLY, you are a terrible dancer and I hope you never do this again." That would give me enough info to reply rather than chuckle at your disgust and move onto another thread.

This is my opinion. No matter what differences in opinion we have, I still love you all (platonically) and always look forward to clicking the "new posts" button when I log in.

I can't comment on the Chit Chat thread deal since it's only recent, though I have seen more or less the same amount of posts in other threads when it was around. I will give it the benefit of the doubt and wait though as activity may boost more later.

As for "tarnished to excess" on the picture situation, I don't think it ever became like that. I understand trying to prevent part of it due to a thread not derailing, but that was never really a problem at all, even with the links that Matt posted.

and yeah, I don't agree with you, but you're a cool guy Serious and I'm glad you shared your honest opinion.
