Stop with single image replies.
#16
We discussed both the chit-chat thread closure and this rule before enforcing them. As I said, we aren't trying to ruin the fun of the forum, just trying to give it a direction. As Seriously said, posting an image isn't against the rule, but posting only an image is. Give context, and personality to your post.

If I posted a video of me doing the macarena, rather than just replying with only a gif displaying your disgust, you could post the gif with something below along the lines of "SERIOUSLY, you are a terrible dancer and I hope you never do this again." That would give me enough info to reply rather than chuckle at your disgust and move onto another thread.

I'd just like to point out that this is still totally okay as it's contributing to the discussion. This isn't a blanket ban on all images, or fun in general - just on the over-use of image-only replies.

There's no fun in trying to make all your posts "SUPER SERIOUS" nor do I really care about the "quality of the posts" as if my posts were to be looked at by different judges. Do you really care about how other people/places perceive the forum that much? Nobody's hurting each other and there has been no previous drama other than the Zombie Riot mess. It's just pointless rules being enforced.

Nobody is claiming that people didn't have fun with them before. I'm sure there are many who did. That isn't the point though. As a whole, image-only posts bring down the overall quality of the site and for many, myself included, the desire to continue through a thread. As Dazz said, nobody is saying you have to make every post completely serious. You just need to put a little more than zero effort into them.

And as for caring what others think of the community, I'm not sure why you don't. I'm proud of the community we have here. For the most part, we haven't degraded into the same mess most other forums wind up in and I'd like to keep it that way. Building a good reputation can only help the site so I think it makes sense to do everything we can to keep up the quality here.

Yes, I can very clearly read and that looks like the word "banned".

This is just unnecessary nitpicking. While "ban" does generally have a connotation of permanence, it doesn't necessarily have to mean forever. Would suspended have been a better word to use? Possibly, though we can suspend posting privileges without suspending access to the entire account so it's not completely accurate either. In this case, his entire account was prevented from accessing the site for 24 hours. I'm not sure how to make it any more clear.

Alright, I can deal with this. Mostly because I don't know how to post images, and I don't even like to take the time to find them anyways.

You mean you don't have a folder full of images to use?

Neither do I! hahahahahahahaha.... uh...

In seriousness, I didn't really see this as an issue until I looked. There is a lot of just Images, and I can say I did that too every now and then. I can see this working out for the better, though.

Question: Can we still use emoticons?

Doesn't that make warning levels completely worthless if he can just come in here and do that? I might be able to understand if I said something hugely inappropriate or at another member's offense, but I posted a god damn smiley face emoticon. I'd almost consider leaving the forum for something this absurd if I didn't love you guys so much, now I feel uncomfortable posting anything because an admin apparently has it out for me.

Dude, it's not that bad and I thought that was a bit childish. You got put on probation because you were already told via warning to stop this. (Joke or not) Honestly I thought you were over the line by disobeying the rule twice, in a row, in a thread that asked everyone to stop.

Also it's kinda dumb to give you more warnings over the same offense again and again instead of probating you to make a stronger point.

It's not nitpicking. If you would have said suspended, I would have reacted the same. It's still him being banned (just not perma banned) over something so small when you could have just gone with a warning instead.

As for the earlier part, I like the community as well, but I don't give a crap about how some random neck beards or casuals precieve the forums as I know that they're good people and that we get along. Either way, if you're trying to get a good reputation from other people, then I can already tell you that this is not the way. Most other forums are fine (to an extent obviously) with both the image and chit chat situation, and when I informed a few if something like this were to happen iin other places, they said it was stupid and unnecessary.

Yea, stupid casuals suck, fuck them. Leave my precious forum circlejerk alone.

Really nothing is happening. This isn't a new rule that got imposed onto the community without warning. The staff are literally enforcing the rules, Rule 1 to be specific. (While not official rules, they're still enforceable ones.)

Except as said previously, the members here welcome new members very well and they can just enter a conversation anywhere without feeling like outcasts. Also, I'd rather have a smaller yet friendly user base on the forum than a large amount of shitposters.

Eh, I don't think I did it in the first place, so this shouldn't be a big deal.

I can assume we can't respond with things like "lol" "lolno" "XD" and things like that? Declining quality of posts and all that?

You would assume correctly. The goal here is to keep a certain quality standard. It doesn't have to be anything ridiculous but even before this rule, posts like "lol" and "XD" alone would have fallen under our existing spam header.

(Hey guise I'm back for the second time #swag)
Well I can understand why this rule is in place (As like it or not, shitposting is shitposting and as thred post said we don't want to become 4chan or le Reddit face.) but eh it only happened in off topic places so I think we should have only went to an outright ban if it spread to other topics. Another forum I visit has a "Not recommended" section in the rules that lists things that are technically in the rules but are still frowned upon by the mods which I think is a better place to put it.

Then again it ain't my forum and this rule doesn't affect my posting style much so yeah in the end I'm cool with whatever.

Yes.

Yes it is.

These doesn't really say anything other than you folks are able to image leech and that you like dumb memes; not to mention images take longer to load a page than text. [Image: fyhMukh.gif]

While we're on the topic, can we make a rule or at least encourage posters to NOT chain quote large images or posts? It happens a fair bit, and nearly nobody takes the time to edit out the img tags or trim down a long wall of text.
To be fair, those aren't single image replies. There is text involved. Things like what Arjahn posted is a single image reply, and for that, I absolutely agree with this rule being put in.

(late reply to this particular post, but whatevs :P)

I disagree. If Arjahn was actually suspended, he would still be able to view the site. But he's banned, and banned people can't view the site (trust me, I know this for a fact). Being suspended and being banned are two totally different things.
