The Legend of Zelda

Really points that he brought up but then also some of them just seemed trivial or even bad game design. I found his point about the chests to be trivial. There's so many reasons why OoTs chest are animated the way they are such as: progress in technology, add more emphasis on finally getting an item and so much more. ALttP had no real fanfare for doing well. It felt like a flat victory. I agree with his side though. Sometimes you just wanna grab the item quickly and go but really? A 10 second animation is too much? He only ever mentions big chests. Not small chest either which are significantly shorter than big chest animations.

Also, his point about adding Goron companion would no only have made worse. So much worse that I can't even begin to fathom the level of frustration that would've come from that. He makes about about camera angels yet not being able to see your companion, yet watch out for the environment, watch out for the traps AND target the only would only have made for controller breaking moments. Not only that but when you enter a fight with a Wolfos/Iron Knuckle, it's 1 v 1. Having you're companion there would result in 2 v 1 fight. You'd lose the sense of personal development you gained because you had help. But may also result in your accidentally targeting your ally(which would've obviously be a function).

Lastly, I'm gonna be that guy but ALBW is a really REALLY REALLY shallow and superficial Zelda game. It's one of the few times it bothers me that people praise that game when it's just a huge fan service with little to none of the Zelda spirit. It lacks any of the spark and wonder that the other games had- especially ALttP. I'm surprised EgoRaptor fell for such an obvious "Nintendo trap" rather than actually critically reviewing that game too. At one point he even shows the part where you have to use the painting technique to get around an obstacle while on a moving platform. That's just a puzzle thrown in our face with the solution obviously in front of you the same way OoT does. It's not even challenge. It's just a pretend way of putting in difficulty. What context is there for a wall to be sticking out of another wall. All of the dungeons felt conviently designed for the painting mechanic.

The way he talks about Zelda 1 makes me think of Demons Souls though. Generally a good video. It's the kind of criticism you can take on and actually understand their viewpoint on, rather than have them rant(despite the over exaggeration and comedy added). Zelda/Nintendo need more criticisms put towards their games. It's stuff like this (a long with MatthewMatosis) that make the Zelda games feel worthy of discussing in depth. It changes my perspective on points I may miss and actually like the game even more.

Edit: And Majoras Mask is best.
Edit Edit: And fuck Skyward Sword. So glad he raged at Skyward Sword.

The first Zelda game I played was the original one for the NES. I didn't get that far when I was a kid since it was a little too complicated for me. As I got older, i knew the basics on what needed to be done to get to point A to point B. I didn't get to play OOT up until the collector's edition of the game came for the gamecube(this one was the one that also had Master Quest version of OOT).

Majora's mask is hard at first. But its a snitch when you have everything balanced out in terms of planning and having time for doing this and that regarding in the game's universe. Twilight Princess is an awesome entry to the zelda series, but Its more of a challenge to some than others. But my favorite Zelda game has to be Wind Waker. Apart from Nintendo doing a different art style for the Zelda universe, this is the first time(in ever) where we see Link being expressive through expressions as a regular character instead of straight face 24/7. Honestly, if your little sister was kidnapped by a giant bird, what would be the first thing that would come to your response? A shocked expression. I would love to see a new console Zelda game in this style. But there its got a bad rep from angry zelda fans who dislike it for 'looking like a cartoon'.

Not surprised OOT made the cut on those stats.

Here's the thing with those stats:
Nostalgia. Plain and simple. 40% of those polled said they were introduced to LoZ by OoT. OoT pulled in 24% as the best Zelda game.
Noooooossssssttttaaaaaallllllgggggiiiiiiiaaaaa.

Nostalgia can get the best out of anyone's mind. Although. If I were to vote on the best zelda game. It would be Wind Waker.

Twilight Princess will always be one of my top favorites because of nostalgia even though Ocarina of Time was the first one I played and the one I beat first. I had a better experience with it and just played way more with it. I used to play it after I beat the game and used to make up stories as a kid. Goooood tiiiimmmeesss.

What the?

Just to go back to that other thread:

I never really understood remakes and why studios don't just focus on making new games, aside from the armies of fanboys who will shill out tons of money just to see a new coat of paint on that game they liked when they were ten. Sorry, that was pretty mean spirited, but you get my point.

Nevermind Arjahn, I had no idea.

Well, if you watched the Sequalitis video on the previous page and just felt like going "Huh?" through it, I've got a different video. I honestly couldn't get through the video with just how much sheer rage Egoraptor was putting in to it, which made it no longer feel like honest criticism. This video is much shorter, much more thoughtful and only focuses on the differences between the first LoZ and A Link to the Past with much more research (actual quotes from developers, etc). It covers many of the same points though (and is older than the Sequalitis video).

I just watched the new Sequelitu and I have say that is what I had in mind when I came up with my show idea. OoT is not perfect like everyone keeps saying. It's still a good game, but there's a reason that some of the ideas were removed and/or changed for later games.

I've been thinking of buying A Link Between Worlds, but I don't know if I should. What do you guys think of the game? I need some suggestions.

It's worth it. Even if you never had experience with bird's eye view Zelda this makes you appreciate the style it used to have. Full of hidden secerts , puzzles are freaking amazing and you get right to the game when you start it. Boss battles are also fun and there is never a moment in the game you'll dislike. My only problem is that it's too short and Normal mode is a bit too easy. I would definitely reccomend it if you want to go back to the style of older Zelda's or if you want to try out a brand new experience. I love it.

Alright, thanks. I'll probably buy it soon then.
