World of Warcraft

Patrick had been playing for like 5 years or more. I haven't even hit the year mark yet haha. He's just now getting me into dungeons and raids.

I am playing on Sargeras on the Alliance side with a reroll guild called "Combat Wombats"
We are downing the raids in Vanilla content right now.

World of Warcraft is an interesting phenomenon in the sense that I have no idea how it's still around besides it having a massive core of fans that are basically addicted to the game like it's crack.

Adendum: Don't get me wrong, I think it's a well designed game, but it's outdated and surpassed on a lot of levels. And the subscription isn't helping matters either. By all accounts, it should have petered out long ago.

Its mainly just because its familiar, and can run on a lot of systems. What people seem to forget is the massive part of mmo.

My gnome is level 31 now. Deciding where to head next. Any suggestions?

One thing that you can not fault Blizzard on is that they know how to keep a story up for as long as they want to. The game has changed quite a lot since Vanilla WoW and I recently came back a month or so ago and the changes from now and back when Cata launched are really shocking but I am still enjoying the game because the game still has enjoyable people I can get to know.

This is where I disagree with you. The subscription model, Pay to play if you will, may seem like an outdated business model due to many MMOs going free to play. But there is something that is missing with many of these MMOs, backstory. Warcraft has been around years before World of Warcraft came out and thus the franchise had a backstory to use to help further the plot and also for the expansions. But I digress; the pay to play model works due to the online shop having zero items that boost your character in any way where other games are free to play but allow players access to items to boost their power which will cause an imbalance with the game. Another game that was recently announced as a pay to play game is Wildstar. This MMO is highly anticipated by many regardless of the business model due to how the game plays and how the devs are handling all the details in the game. Blizzard still tries to listen to their fans which has faulted them in the past, which I am sure is one of the reasons why they lost so many subscribers lately, but I still believe they have what it takes to keep WoW alive for a long time. Not to mention with their new expansion, the character models are getting updated, which is something fans have been wanting since around Wrath of the Lich King.

Wildstar is a hybrid model, IIRC. Anyways, it doesn't have to be free to play, you know. At least with Buy to Play you can still play your games after months. The reason I don't go on to WoW anymore is because I don't want to pay to play the games I've already bought. Much like how I think paying for online services on consoles is ridiculously stupid considering games are already waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overpriced.

I can respect that, but [Image: aa656d6483f070b01661dcb5e3798d731be0d3cc...61c341.jpg]

So we're totally going to have an awesome VGFacts get-together on Dragonmaw, right? RIGHT? :D

For people who are playing, PM me your Real ID email things and I'll add you!

Is Dragonmaw one of the servers?

It is! And, totally by coincidence and not at all completely intentionally, it's the one I'm on!

Well, we could still probably do a meet-up of sorts via instances, I think (I quit around burning crusade and only recently got back into it this Christmas). Mind you, my characters are lvl 30 alliance and a lvl 12 horde, none of them on that server. If you're horde and feel like bolstering up a lvl. 1 to a high up level, I'd gladly make a character on your server.

I don't mind helping people through their lower levels at all but it would have to be Alliance I'm afraid.

You're right about the instance thing though. Real ID friends (and I think Battle Tag too) can queue for instances together and possibly just head into one as well but that's hardly as fun as an overworld meetup.

Yeah, but its better than nothing. How about a fresh start on a new server and forming a vgfacts guild on said server?

I considered that and certainly wouldn't be against it. It's hard to switch away from the server I've been on since vanilla but it does seem like the most fair way for everyone. What kind of server were you thinking? PvP or PvE?
