Almost four months late, but happy 10th anniversary to this video!

Bad neighbors are such a pain, huh?

EDIT: "yo, the video quality is pretty good for a video made in 2009. Why is that?" - Because professional high quality cameras were a thing back then, kid. The reason why you didn't see it often was because those cameras are expensive.

Fabulous Secret Powers

Wanna know the reason why I'm posting this old meme? Because THIS is the original video.

How come the original video only has 3 million views after all this time while the repost from 3 years later has like 187 million views?

Full story below:
slackcircus Wrote:So, here's a little backstory on this video. This is the original video from which the "HEHEYYEYAAEYAAAEYAEYAA" / "He-Man Sings" meme was born. (FULL HISTORY IS BELOW)

We made this video in 2005 and posted it to the Something Awful forums:
http://secretpowers.net/reddit/fsp_hi...

In 2006, dkilzer2000 posted it to youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8Nc8R...

We finally got around to posting it to our own page in 2007 (you are here).

Then, in 2010, in the process of redesigning our company web site, we posted it to Vimeo:
http://vimeo.com/8564338

We did not disable the "Download the source video" option on Vimeo, nor did we leave our watermark on the video as we had on the YouTube version. From Vimeo, people grabbed the "high quality" version, edited out the intro and outro (which included all of our credits), and posted it again to YouTube. As it turns out, removing the intro and outro was a very smart and viral-y decision by ProtoOfSnagem and others, because the video has gotten over 60M views in this abbreviated form. We tried for over a year to get ProtoOfSnagem to at least credit us for the video, but he never responded -- in fact, it seemed to be a dead YouTube account -- so on 11/14/12 we flagged it and YouTube pulled it down, along with over TWO YEARS of your comments. :(

On 11/15/12, we retracted the claim on ProtoOfSnagem's version. Our only goal was to prompt Proto to credit us in his description, but instead it just felt like we broke this joyful little corner of the Internet and made a lot of people sad. That is the OPPOSITE of what this video is all about.

11/16/12 -- ProtoOfSnagem's version returned to YouTube. We have no plans to pull it down again, as we feel this video belongs to you, the Internet Citizens, at this point.

Since 2005, there have been all manner of tributes, remixes and even 5-10 hour loops of the video. We've collected our favorite tributes to Fabulous Secret Powers here:

http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=...

All of this is to say, we are extremely happy so many people have enjoyed this video over the years. And if you're here watching the original, sitting through the smooth intro tones of my Yamaha DX7 (aka the Doogie Howser-o-matic, which you can pry out of my cold, dead hands) we appreciate you!

Love,

Slackcircus

Why Mike uses Linux

EDIT:
Mike Wrote:I’d just like to interject for a moment. What you’re refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/LInux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

To address some common comments:
1) I know it's hard to read the text at the 30 second mark. I was still learning to edit when making this video
2) "what OS/distro is ______?" The installer is for fedora, the next one is a bunch of rices. This video was made in kdenlive on Ubuntu. Don't confuse the Distro for the window manager.
3) It's very cool that you use arch btw
4) "I want to use Linux but _____" That's okay! As long as you have an enjoyable and productive computing experience that's what matters.

Have you heard about how medieval armor/armour restricts movement? That's a huge lie.

conncork Wrote:Mobility in Medieval Plate Armor. This video shows that full plate allows one to stand up from a fall with relative ease. Perhaps the most infamous example is the notion that "knights had to be hoisted into their saddles with a crane," which is as absurd as it is persistent even among many historians. Misconceptions and Questions Relating to Armor. Armor was worn only by knights.Wrong. Women of earlier times never fought in battle or wore armor.—Wrong. Armor was so expensive that only princes and rich nobility could afford it.—Wrong. Armor is extremely heavy and renders its wearer immobile.—Wrong. Knights had to be hoisted into their saddles with cranes.—Wrong.

Remenber the screaming Beaver Marmot meme? Well...

I repeat: contrary to what the meme says, that is a marmot in the video, not a beaver.

Have you ever wondered why the 26th U.S president Theodore Roosevelt called himself a "bull-moose"? Hopefully this video gives you an idea why.

This video showed up in my recommendations. Wanna see what Condition 1 weather looks like in Antartica?

Anthony Powell Wrote:Filmed at McMurdo Station, where it is relatively sheltered by the surrounding hills. The weather down here is classified as being Condition 3 (nice weather), Condition 2 (not so nice), or Condition 1...

The clip appeared on the today show recently...
