Super Smash Bros. Melee: Name Randomizer Trivia
#1
One underused feature added into Melee was the name feature. although it was only 4 characters long, it allowed you to differentiate yourself, and allowed Hal Labs to sneak in trivia. In either the English or Japanese language setting, using the Random name option will net you names that are references to other Nintendo titles.

In the English name setting, you can get names like Iggy (Iggy Koopa), GCN, SNES, Navi (Ocarina of Time), Wart (Mario 2), Nook and Tomm (Animal Crossing), Ruto (Ocarina of Time), Pit (Kid Icarus), Fami (Famicom), GBA, TLOZ (The Legend of Zelda), PKMN (Pokemon), Impa (Ocarina of Time), Klob (Nintendo/Goldeneye), Nell (Advance Wars), and Lulu (Majora's Mask). Other funny names included 401K, L33T, NEWB, ODIN, LOKI, THOR, and for some reason the names DAYZ and WARZ are there (although I only pictured DAYZ).

In the Japanese setting, I couldn't read every name (As I don't speak Japanese) but I took pictures of the names that were in English, and ones the seemed to be interesting (i.e. names with English characters or names with exclamation/question marks). Names I could read were EAD (Nintendo EAD), MIC (???), 64DD, 6502 ( a reference to MOS 6502, the coding type used for the NES), SW, NUS (Nintendo Ultra 64), Vivi, W & W (Wario/Waluigi???) N64, HVC (serial code for Famicom).

I also have several ones that are purely in Japanese, so if I could get them translated, that would be nice.

Since I don't know how to link 30+ photos without overloading the page here is the link to the Photobucket gallery.

Wow, Thanks! If I could ask you, could translate more for me? I took pictures of the purely Japanese names, and would like to see if they hold anything interesting.
Here is the link to the gallery with purely Japanese names.

Also, found that the names Bobo (A recurring boss of the Wario Land series), Sami (Advance Wars), and Boo (Mario), Mac (may be a reference to Little Mac) and Shig (Shigeru Miyamoto???) appear in the English name setting.

Photo Gallery has been updated with these pictures. Link is in OP.
