Satoru Iwata has passed away
#16
Right now I'm going through and watching all the Nintendo game trailers of games I'm looking forward to on my 3DS and just enjoying the things that are being worked on. It made think how much I'd like to see a few of these games do some sort of tribute to Iwata at some point. I do hope some will do that.

This is so unbelievably heart-wrenching. He was such a good and selfless CEO who cared about what the gamers wanted and not what would make them the most money. He will be missed.

While browsing the eshop on my 3DS I ran into Stretchmo. Had I not just bought the First Light DLC last night, I'd spend the 10 bucks to get the whole game now. It's really a lot of fun.

Iwata did so much for Nintendo.

When HAL Labs made Pokemon Stadium, he recreated the Pokemon battle system in a week, without any design documents. Note the fact that the N64 was hard as he'll to program for.

When Game Freak, couldn't get Gold and Silver to fit on a Gameboy cartridge, he created a new compression algorithm that was so good, they had enough space to fit the Kanto region.

When Earthbound was in a developmental rut and almost cancelled, he rewrote the entire game' s core code, and because of him they were able to finish the entire game in a year.

He debugged Super Smash Bros. Melee himself to make sure it shipped on time.

He also programmed all early Kirby titles, and worked on every major Gamecube games.

Beyond his programming prowess, he took Nintendo from a 3rd rut, to 1st place glory.

Iwata affected not only mine, but many other lives with the work he did at HAL and Nintendo. Pokemon, Kirby, Smash and Mother wouldn't be the same without his programming prowess. Hell I wouldn't be the same without him. I owe my childhood to this man.

Say what you want about him, but you can't deny the affect he has had on not only Nintendo, but games as a whole.

"My name tag says I'm a corporate president, my mind says I'm a video game developer, but my heart says I'm a gamer." -- Satoru Iwata, 2005.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Iwata. Even if you leave us, your legacy will live on.

I feel bad for whoever's going to be the next president. He'll be inheriting a company that's having a hard time in the console wars and will be constantly compared to Iwata, who I'm sure wouldn't want that kind of pressure for their successor.

Man, Nintendo Directs are going to feel a little empty without him.

Well, that's some horrible news to wake up to.

What's even worse is that he died two days ago, and apart from Nintendo none of us knew.

It's really sad to see him go, and there's not telling what's going to happen to Nintendo. He was the guy that was stopping Nintendo from going full mobile, or at least having ports of Pokémon, Mario, Zelda on phones. Hell, the guy was a genius even liked to code random stuff in his spare time.

Such a shame his final years were spent with all that stress and difficulty of trying to keep his position as CEO, sell the Wii U and having to deal with people at the company trying to get him fired.

We just never understood. He tried to get us to understand, but we never did. ;_;7

Well, I just hope whoever takes over from him will have a good heart, and good intentions for Nintendo. Not just some suit who cares for money and stockholders then the games the company makes.

Gotta give the man respect though. No matter how ill he was he still kept going to company shareholder meetings and everything. Hell, he was at the last meeting a week ago.

What's even sadder is that he lived to see his last E3. An E3 that he thought would be fun and fulfilling but instead it was treated with disgust, anger, annoyance, disrespect and a whole lot more. The fans didn't get what they wanted from that E3 and people started to complain to Nintendo about it. Iwata's final month was around people who were angry and disrespectful.

Actually. Looking back. Those Muppet presentations in the Nintendo Direct were probably done to hide Iwata's bad health totally from the public, or at least to give him some rest for when he is really needed.

You know, I never thought of that. He was sick in bed from a killer growth waiting to see what we thought of the games we were getting and what he saw was complaining that we didn't get what we want, some assholes stating that the new Zelda was not acceptable, and alot of people trying to stop a game from being made. He missed E3 becuse he did
he did not want to put his "fans" (I'm not sure what to call them) though a sickly hurting man and what we gave him was more hurt.

Mr. Iwata-san, if you can read this, I'm so sorry for everything we put you though. OTL

Genuinely upset about this. I almost didn't believe it at first.
" The guy we saw as a Jim Henson muppet only 3 or so weeks ago? That Satoru Iwata!?" but yes. T'is a shame. I've been getting pretty teary eyed seeing all of the tributes and words from people within the industry. Head of Xbox, PlayStation, Warren Spector, Rob Bowling, Journalists, John Romero, Konami, All of MiiVerse and many more. Really sad day for the entire industry.
I loved Nintendo when Iwata joined. Those years in the early 2000's where Nintendos finest. I may not agree with some stuff like Region Locking and the Amiibo situation but generally, he seemed like an incredible man.

This is a big hit. At a prime age, too. The world has one less inspirational and innovative people.

This is a bit odd: http://www.gamnesia.com/news/fans-are-pe...aTMVflViko but I'm honestly okay with it.

To be honest, I'd love to buy an Amiibo of him if they went through. It'd be something very nice to have.
