Real Time Strategy. Most of the time war games. You take a group of soulders or what have you and try to attack the other bases and enieys. See Halo Wars, Starcraft, and/or Command & Conquer. I hear Pikmin is also an RTS.

It's babby's first RTS and I don't care. It was too good.

I don't play a lot of 2D fighting games.

I missed the RTS part but I'm gonna say it anyway: Rise of Nations. If Big Huge had not gone down I'd still be playing that series.
