Forum Rules

(If one of the higher ups don't like this, get rid of it then, but I'm just posting this from the other forum)

1.) No excessive, pointless posting of memes or fads. Make sure your posts have a meaning or they will be deleted and you will be warned.

2.) No NSFW images or linking. Posting porn or any kind of illegal material will result in a permanent ban.

3.) No spamming of any kind.

4.) Stay on topic in threads.

5.) When posting videos, please put them in spoiler tags [spoiler][/*spoiler] (without the *) so when the page loads, it doesn't take forever for a page to load and it can go smoothly. This rule now is only in effect for posting multiple videos in a single post, or in a thread where videos are required (Example: The Music Thread). Otherwise, you do not have to use spoiler tags for videos.

Here are the punishments:
1st offense - Warning
2nd offense - Warning
3rd offense - 3 Day ban
4th offense - 1 week ban
5th offense - 1 month ban
6th offense - 6 months ban
7th offense - Perma-ban.

And that's it. Have fun!

I don't think this will be an issue for me personally, but can you define "illegal content"?

Like, would discussing warez in general be against the rules (ie a thread about how piracy positively/negatively affects the game/film industry)?

Would telling someone to pirate a thing/saying that you have or will pirate a thing be against the rules?

I'm assuming directly linking to an illegal download/piracy website would be against the rules?

I'm not trying to imply that I myself intend to discuss anything illegal like this in great detail, but I believe it would do good to get a clarification, especially since the punishment would be a permanent ban.

You can admit to whatever you like, and discuss your views. But linking to warez, and giving people instructions on how to perform illegal acts *publicly* isn't acceptable.

I understand your concern, but we can definitely discuss the impact of piracy and such.

Thank you, that makes much sense. I saw some guy get a rather lengthy ban on another forum because he posted a screenshot of a website or whatever and coincidentally in the shot was a utorrent popup saying that his Beatles discography download was complete... didn't want anything like that happening to me.

But you're Gabe Newell, you shouldn't have to worry about that stuff. You aren't a pirate, are you sir?

Do links to rom sites count as links to warez?

I don't know actually. I know on the other site I visit (gameFAQ's) we can't post anything dealing with illegal activities otherwise we get moderated and if it's bad enough, banned.

But what is warez?

Well, I moderate over on tSR (which is also on this server) and links to rom sites are allowed.

The only thing is, tSR deals specifically in ripping roms anyway, so it's kind of pointless/hypocritical/stupid to be like YEAH WE'LL HOST ALL THESE RIPPED ASSETS BUT PRETEND WE DIDNT HAVE TO GET THEM FROM SOMEWHERE TO BEGIN WITH so it's allowed.
I'm not sure if that's okay here since the subject matter is different, but at the same time it's a whole lot bigger in scope.

I guess we'd need Dazz or DKYG to answer that one for us.

For the record, "warez" is basically slang for pirated software.

Oh, ok. I had no idea what tSR was anyways.

Well I sort of have a problem with the mods/admins completely negating the point of Rep in Ryan's case, just throwing that out there.

I'm not really sure if you're supposed to be linking to rom sites and the link on tSR but definitely don't do so here. Showing the results of a rip, even if it implies that you got them from a rom, doesn't explain how you did so or provide access to the rom itself but linking to them does so it should be avoided across the board[s] (pun completely intended).

The point of rep is to provide feedback on the quality of a user's posts (i.e. are they being respectful, upstanding members or are they flaming for no reason) or show appreciation/dislike for an action taken. You used it because you didn't like his video, which is fine, but really has no place contributing to one's rep so I'm thinking it was you who missed the point.

I don't even know who Ryan is, and neither do the rest of the Admins who followed me, but, to put it in your words, sort of had a problem with you completely negating the point of rep in Ryan's case.
