^ Is that really a hashtag?
It's hard for me to make a list because for games like Assassins Creed, I don't even consider them to be bad games at all. But since they're not for me I would see them as overrated even though I acknowledge they have the audience and have catered to them for the last 5 years. Or a series like Forza/GranTurismo which I find to be the epitome of bordem/a snoozefest but they're deserving of their score/hype because of what they offer to their target audience. So...dunno if I could make a list of games I think are overrated, because it's usually the problem the game being good but not for me. Eh. I'll go with the most obvious list ever made though 1) CoD: MW series 2) CoD: BO series 3) Final Fantasy [insert any roman numeral here] 4) Minecraft 5) Russell Brand

These are in no real order.
1: Assassin Creed (the whole series) 2: Most of the 'mainline' Final Fantasy games (7 and 10 in particular) 3: The Uncharted trilogy 4: Both Borderlands 5: Arkham City And I'm gonna add a sixth one because rules are for squares, like pants 6: Journey

The entire freaking Halo franchise.
The entire Call of Duty franchise. Final Fantasy 7 (3/6, and 2 were better!) Angry Birds While I still played a metric ton of it and I hate to put it in this category, because I love the technical achievements and merits that it brought to its creator, I don't seem to love it as much as many, many other people: Minecraft.

none of these are bad games i just don't understand why everyone personally bashes me cause i'm not into them.
1. Final Fantasy Series - again good games but if you say one negative thing people jump on you like you are some kind of leper that needs to be expelled from the gaming community. apparently as gamers we are not allowed to have an opinion. 2. Zelda series - great story and great music but i just can't get into them for whatever reason. (most likely cause i'm terrible at them) 3. Skyrim - why is such a glitchy game so popular? i knew people who attached themselves to their computers over this game to the point where we worried for their well being. 4. newer Mario games - seriously it's the same thing.... over and over.... i know people freak out when things are different but i think it's time we spice it up a little. 5. Angry birds - it's fun i guess but... i don't understand why everywhere i go there is merch and rabbid fans... but yeah i don't think any of the games are bad i just get tired of being berated for the fact i happen to like other titles more then these gifts from on high.

People are so quick to call out CoD for being overrated, but based on the comments here, it seems to be mostly disliked.
I agree that CoD (specifically the MW games) is overrated in the mainstream, but it's funny that the backlash has made it underrated in smaller social circles. Also it's pretty silly to call Minecraft overrated. A lot of people like it for various reasons, but Minecraft doesn't really have a negative impact on the gaming industry like CoD or Angry Birds. There's really nothing like it either and it stands on it's own merits, unlike other popular games that are popular for the sake of being popular.

The insane amount of of [something]Craft clones we've gotten over the last 3 years has been increasing. Or the fact that games like Skyward Sword and Dead Space 3 now have crafting in them. I'm not saying SS and DS3 are taking elements of Minecraft into their games, but it's pretty convenient to have players doing that in their games at a time when Minecraft is so big. It does have it's negative impact.

Any modern shooter, really. I just can't get into those and find them utterly boring.
And don't even get me started on Angry Birds. That crap has been milked to death faster than any Capcom fighter.

Hell, even the concept of inserting a -craft suffix into the name predates Minecraft. Come to think of it, Zelda: A Link to the Past ALMOST has a moment of weapon crafting in it. Sure, its more of a side quest to get a character from point A to point B, but doing so gives you the opportunity to upgrade your sword. While not EXACTLY the same, in a world of swordplay and magic it seems easier for elements of crafting to be feasible. But I don't really know for sure, maybe Miyamoto just plays Minecraft all day.

5.Minecraft ( This game is just everywhere! )
4.LOZ: Ocarina of time ( This game isn't even that great. It alright but its not like the best game ever like everybody says ) 3.Skyrim ( Again this game is not that great. I thought it was really bad ) 2. Pokemon ( Okay the games are very good but people always talk about it and it gets annoying. ) 1. Most of the Call of Duty games. ( These games can get fun when you get it and play it but its always the same stuff. )

Just because I'm listing these, doesn't mean I dislike them
5. 007 Golden Eye (Nintendo 64) It's aged so badly. Even back when it was big, I found it to be a little clunky with the controls and badly designed. 4. Street Fighter There are far better fighters out there. Street Fighter is so popular because of it's legacy, but now-a-days it's gone a little bit stale. 3. New Super Mario Bros. This series was cool when it first came out on DS because we were all like "cool it's just like the classic games with a modern look" 3 games later: "okay... we get it" 2. Call of Duty Come on, shouldn't need to explain this one. The fans of this series seem to think that it's the only game that exists. 1. Angry Birds Hate to be a 'copy-cat' and have this on my list just like everyone else, but it is very deserving. a good game if you're simple minded and have minimal gaming experience... oh wait... no wonder it's so popular.

I'm just gonna intentionally leave out Call of Duty and whatnot.
1. God of War (any of them) 2. Final Fantasy X 3. Little Big Planet 4. Any game made by Rare ever. 5. PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale

The only reason why I put Minecraft in my list was 1) It was a joke. 2) I actually forgot what my 5th game was supposed to be, but I was too lazy to actually edit it. It seems to me that the people who say Minecraft is overrated, really haven't played it much. Take Terraria for example. I downloaded the trial on Wednesday and thought it was a pretty fun metroidvania with a little mix of Minecraft in it. I asked my friend to try it, and as soon as she got into the game she said "I don't like it. I don't like 2D side scrollers, and that's why I don't like the mario games." So I asked her to actually try it and all she did was dig straight down.

But with ALttP it's never a core part of the game with rewards and bonuses, that's outside of the story. For DS3 and SS it's a part of the game that isn't related to the story. Both have crafting which we never had before in those two series. But like I said before, I'm not saying they were put into the game because of Minecraft, but I think there is some level of influence there.(03-30-2013, 07:37 AM)BumblebeeCody Wrote: Even then, Minecraft has negative impact. It does have it's negative impact. It does have it's negative impact though. It's actually on the level of pathetic with the amount of crafting type indie games that we've gotten, or the fact that the most popular indie game on XBLA Indie is Fortress Craft. It's taken away creativity for mediocrity on an Indie space. Games that have all gained a decent level of exposure have been swept under because of Fortress Crafts high popularity. And I do like Minecraft. Played it since launch and I don't think it's overrated. |
