Nintendo Switch

What, really? No one's made a dedicated thread for the system yet? I thought most of you were Nintendo fans. So yeah, the new console was revealead with a trailer and a bunch of confirmed developers.

Discuss or whatever. I think it looks great, the first Nintendo home console I've had any interest in since the NES.

Of course early developers mean jack shit, they could just drop a port of something to fulfill the agreement and move on, and I think the portability of this thing still needs some tweaking. Other than that, looks fun. I guess this is just Nintendo's way of doing away with the DS line so they and their third parties can focus on just one console.

I'm just getting angry that you blink and the Nintendo system you just bought already has a newer, improved model and this is pretty fast to already be releasing an all new home console.

Like I said, crap like this and new gimmicks are another reason why I don't game much anymore. I'm not made of money.

To my surprise, Skyrim is coming to this console. I wonder what sort of deal Nintendo had to do just to make this a reality. Also. In the video. We're getting a new Mario game. By the looks of it. They putting Mario back into his traditional 3D platforming routes, in the vein of Super Mario 64.

Honestly, haven't owned a Nintendo home console since the Gamecube. But compared to the announcement of PS Slim and Xbox One Scorpio, I guess it's a better successor to the WiiU.

Also, the design looks neat.

I already said my initial thoughts in the announcement thread. To sum up, I like the idea of it, but I'm waiting to see what it's going to do and what it's going to have for games before I make a true opinion of it. I might buy it if they port Kingdom Hearts 2.8 and III to it. Right now, I'm interested in Sonic 2017 and the new Mario.

Can I also say that I have no hope in the battery life? I know that it's a portable system, but with the way Nintendo wants us to stop playing games after a while, I don't see the system lasting longer then 12 hours, which on a plain ride/ good roadtrip (which is one of the things the trailer showed people doing) is nothing. So I see the charging base being portable as well.

Maybe it's possible that the charging base is similar to like the cradle for the 3ds? All you have to do is plug in the power adapter to charge it.

I really like the idea on how they are selling this product. Would love to try this one out but I'm not made of money and whatever money I do have is more focused on indie games.

I do think the comparison between this and the ps4 and xbone Nintendo still proves to be big in innovating new ideas as long as they are able to do it right.

I'll wait until there's more definitive information before taking a side, but the premise is exciting.

I don't like it.

One thing I love and hate about Nintendo, is that they try to be different and bring people together. They have the mentality of the 80's and 90's, so while Microsoft and Sony want to bring people together online, Nintendo want to bring people together locally, to play games together offline in unique and interesting ways. When I saw the Wii U the first time round, I thought it would be a cool console, I mean the idea was you could have a console ON THE GO and other cool stuff that could be implemented, and in the end I was let down by third parties and Nintendo themselves. The console wasn't a failure, but it sure as hell wasn't a success.

This just seems like "Hey guys, let's take the Wii U idea and make it work" but that's the thing, it won't work. Gamers today don't want something like this, especially from Nintendo. They want a normal console from Nintendo with no "gimmicks" and some actual games. All they really want is a Gamecube 2, not a Wii 3.

I don't know, maybe I'm just looking at this from the Wii U perspective and it just reminds me of how that went. Personally I don't think it will do too well, but I will still get one because the Wii U had some gems and this console will be no different.

THIS. This, this, this. I absolutely ADORED the Gamecube system and controller. It was small, easy to take with you to a friend's house, and the controller felt so comfortable in my hands. I know it sold poorly enough where it had a $100 price slash fairly quickly but I have a very nice stack of Gamecube games. I don't even have 10 games for the Wii U. Honestly, I think for the first time ever I may be skipping a Nintendo system.

I don't see how my thread doesn't count as Dedicated but okay, sure ignore it and make another one I guess. Seems kind of pointless to have both honestly.

Seeing that Take two is mentioned on the list of partners for the switch. Does this mean we'll finally see a new GTA for the Switch?

Yours was about the announcement of two things, I made a thread just for the console. We have threads about Nintendo games in general and threads about specific games. There's no rule we can't have both. Besides, I was making a joke with the first part of my OP.

Yeaaaahh, i'm pretty sure Mario's "traditional platforming routes" are those from the 2D/2.5D games.

Perhaps it would have been better to say his more traditional 3D platforming, which was basically what was said anyways with the mention of Super Mario 64. Wording notwithstanding, the message is pretty clear.

I like the idea, always trying to be different. But here, the difference isn't as gimmicky as the past two consoles. The difference is actually being more practical. I like this Nintendo.
Of course, it won't mean squat unless it's fun. Nintendo made their past gimmicks usually fun, so I have some faith there also.
