I think it's been too far for years now. At least since they started putting up cameras at red lights. A few years ago, there was a study done that said you're on camera on average 18 times a day. I could only imagine what that is now. Oh, and I have no doubt in my mind they can access/tap into anyones phone/computer/etc at any time.

I'm a huge conspiracy theorist so I was pretty excited to see this one.

I've seen statistics:
That the average Londoner is caught on camera 300 times a day
The UK has 20% of the entire worlds CCTV cameras(which is more than China)
4 million CCTV camera which is around 1 camera for every 14 people

...and it's all bullshit to me.

Wow man, that's scary.

If the government sees me when I dance in my room naked, that's too far.

What about when I see you dance in your room naked?

I find it funny, because all the while I don't have an issue with this. So people can see me when I walk down the street... I'm in public. That's a good thing. It's nice to know there is somebody possibly watching over me in case, god forbid, someone tries to stab or mug me.

I don't understand why people are so scared of CCTV... It's incredibly good. You might not have noticed this, but we really don't kill each other as much as a lot of other countries where they don't have so much CCTV.
I get you want privacy, but then why the fuck are you in a public place if you want privacy? Go home and wank there, stop doing it where they would put a camera.

But what if I want them to see me wank?

On a more serious note, I've gotta agree with Dazz on the CCTV front, although logging phone calls is too far in my opinion.

Exactly. I've never felt like a prisoner, but it's pretty crazy when you see those statistics. One of the main reasons for CCTV is to lower crime but it hasn't made a difference. I don't hate CCTV, just the amount of camera we have does have an..."orwellian" feel to it.

CCTV has lowered crime astronomically... Consider population growth, economic struggle, and other factors before making tbose judgements.

So any ideas on the new topic of discussion?

I say we go with how gif is supposed to be pronounced.
Personally, I don't care.

I always thought it was pronounced like "Gift" but without the T. The real way is pronounced "Jif" But I still say "Gif"

I don't get why it's pronounced "jif" when it stands for Graphical Interchange Format. It kind of bugs me, but it's really just preference. I pronounce it like Nappa said.

I still think that the whole debacle was just to get us all to provide free advertising for Jif, the greatest low-calorie peanut butter in the world!

Also I keep falling behind on this thread, my humblest of apologies.

PIRACY, bad or good, and if you choose bad, what should be the legal repercussions?
-As in digital piracy, as in torrenting and websites like the pirate bay and what-not you smart, swashbuckling asses.

I'm not gonna say it's good or bad because it has good and bad to it. Good because if you're a sampler, (someone who pirates and buys the real thing if they like it) it actually helps sales a bit, but the number of actual pirates outnumber the samplers by far, but at the same time any money lost to pirating is theoretical because it's not a physical product so you don't automatically lose money you lose prospective money meaning you're assuming everyone who pirated your product would have bought it if they didn't have that ability. So basically I'm in the middle, because as a pirate myself I can't be against it, but I can't just flat out deny that it can cause damage to profits, and does, but not to the extent that companies try to make you think, and it's stealing.

Edit: Although if I'm gonna get right to the point it is more bad than good, but as stated before it's a grey area for me as I'm a pirate myself.
