The most annoying things in video games?
(11-29-2013, 05:16 PM)CLXcool Wrote: Stop me if you guys heard of this one. Good ideas with bad executions. Some of the time there's always that one game that has a very good premise, but in the end, the game turns out to be total crap. Mario's time machine is an example of this. The idea of Mario going through time sounds promising, but in the end the execution is poorly done.

My example would be the PS3 Six-Axis motion control. The games the used this that I've played anyway were Dark Sector (my first PS3 game I bought and played), Lair (dragon riding and fighting game) and Heavenly Sword.

Dark Sector let you use a weapon called a Glaive which is basically a circular boomerang like thing that you throw at enemies, helps you open doors, etc. However this becomes very tedious at times and often monotonous as this sometimes becomes your only weapon when you have no ammo left for guns. Overall a good idea but not well thought out. It was a launch title or close enough anyway to show off this concept.

Lair was a horrible game all together. You use the Six-Axis controls to steer your dragon while also trying to kill enemies on the ground and such. Again, cool idea but horribly executed. I played a similar game on the PS2 called Drakenguard which had you do pretty much the same thing but with waaaay better control to your dragon while fighting.

Heavenly Sword was actually the only one I've seen that used this to a decent if not excellent effect. You used it to guide projectiles like knives and weapons at enemies but with one character who uses a crossbow, you guide arrows over long distances to get better accuracy. It did take some trial and error to get a handle on it but once you did you find yourself taking out huge amounts of enemies then if you tried with just a cross-hair cursor.

In the last few weeks, I have played Zelda on N64, Kingdom hearts on PS2, and Assassin's Creed IV on PS3, and I noticed something about each of these sestems. The 64 did not need me to use something to hold the saves for the game, so I could play it each day without wondering if I will be able to play the game later on. The PS2 has you put memory cards in the system so that you can keep on playing the game and comeback to these games later. These memory cards can be small but you can buy more. The PS3 has no way of backing up data and if you are out of room for your new big pirate themed stab people game, you are out of luck and will have to delete your Fallout 3 save to play it. I also think that the achievements are taking up room that could have kept the new games on there. In other news, I need a new PS3 to play more games.

I think this is why I don't have Sly 4 yet. I would probably have to delete Tekken or INfamous to play it.

I also hear that the XBOne and PS4 are shit at loading times.

I actually always hated dealing with memory cards. I really preferred cartridges in that respect. If I took it to a friend's house, I only had to remember the game itself, nothing more. However, I do firmly believe that if a console is disk based, it should have external memory card support, so you don't face what you are describing.

On a personal account for the 3 games I've played on PS4, loading times are great, except in the Killzone multiplayer where it can take a while for the maps to load.

You could always use a memory stick or an external hard drive. Sadly not all save files can be copied to those, for those you'll need a PS+ account. Still, it's only a handful of games that don't let you copy the saves. I have like three of my massive catalogue of games.

As for getting a new PS3 to play more games... Why? You can swap the HDD with ease. Just cram in something that's big enough to hold all your gaming, like a 1 or 2tb drive. All laptop hard drives work fine with a PS3 so you should not even have a hard time finding a cheap HDD to use.

I had no clue you could do that. I just thought the data was in the system and you could not get it out and put it somewhere else. I tryed useing a memory stick but I could not figure out how to copy saves over to it.

Here's a video tutorial on how to do it, it is supper easy:

Go to Saved Data Utility, press triangle on the save you want to copy and it gives you the option to copy it to external storage if you have one plugged in.

When a broken mechanic, what do you do? You fix it up or you drop it, so that the sequel is better in every way. I don't like the developers that think that they are allowed to do nothing to the broken mechanic.

Ape escape is bad at this. They have a really bad boat mechanic and they put this in their party game. My thumbs are sore from the boat mini-game, but I need to do this to get 100%.

I'm starting to wish that there would be a book on how to avoid the video game negatives that have been mentioned all over the place in this thread. It would be worth my purchase.

Bad gun feel in a shooter. Not even controls, but if the guns feel floaty and not impactful, it kills the game for me.

The best example I can name is Far Cry Blood Dragon. The game was hyped up as this crazy 80's shootemup, you get in and everything feels you're shooting little nerf darts. The sound design is maybe the worst of any game I've ever played, everything sounds like one of those actual Nerf videogames, except in those the weak impact is on purpose; underwhelming muddy visuals, stilted animations and complete lack of recoil just culminate in one of the worst gaming experiences I think I've ever had.
