Green Jello (later know as Green Jelly after Jello sued them for copyright infringement...) was primarily a comedic band. Get ready for the most hardcore version of "Three Little Pigs" EVER!!! And, it was a top 20 hit on the pop charts in 1993 in the U.S. It hit number 5 in the UK. I ain't making it up.
1992 saw the first big album release from Primus, with their platinum "Sailing The Seas of Cheese" (I love it, by the way, pick up a copy, because PRIMUS SUCKS!!!) Jerry Was a Racecar Driver was the biggest hit from the album. Pay attention to the insanity of Les Claypool's bass guitar.
Neurosis. They invented post metal with this tune right here.
And Helmet, also 1992. Take a listen to almost every hard/heavy metal band posted here so far that debuted after 1992. You know what they almost all sound like? Helmet. They may have only had 2 hit albums, but the mark they left on the scene and how many bands they influenced is insane. The sound came from that they weren't originally a metal band, but a punk rock act that went hardcore and pretty much made a new sound of metal.
All of those songs are pretty amazing and kinda remind me of my high school years. In high school, I really liked 90's rock and metal. (I wasn't in high school in the 90s. As a matter of fact, I graduated in 2010.) It was just, what I was into. Had a lot of Primus, Iced Earth, Metallica, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots.
Helmet was pretty cool. Never heard of them, but the song you posted sounds very familiar.
These days, I mostly just listen to particular bands, rather than genres. I'm not a metal fan, but I still dig Iced Earth and Blind Guardian.
I'm not a Rock fan, but I still dig Coheed and Cambria.
I'm not a techno fan, but I still dig Infected Mushroom.
