Yeah the game is great. Was tempted to get into BlazBlue but then....I couldn't be bothered. Very technical and respectable game though.
The new Guilty Gear is looking awesome.
That music :D

To see Fighting Game players play Killer Instinct
People in the comments were making rape jokes. What's that about?

Hell yeah. Not a fighting game though.
The Cross Counter team and few fighting game community players got their hands on KI3 showing some strategies and what to expect from the mechanics of the game - and it looks AWESOME....but meh. Xbox ONE.
Skip to 31:40 for an awesome combo

Give it to me straight Cody. From terrible to "Who gave this guy a controller?!", what flavor of bad was I? You definitely were going easy on me the whole time.

I wouldn't put yourself down like that. A lot of people have that mentality at first but you have to learn how these types of games work. Bad? Yeah, but no-where near as mindless as other people I've come across, even physically meeting them in the arcades. I've taught/given advice to plenty of people (especially for SFIV) on how to play.
1) Don't dash as much as you did. When you dash you have to commit, which means you're open to attack, especially since you were dashing right in front of me leaving you open. ONly use it from a distance or during corner pressure.
2) Stay with one character for now. So you learn the basics. Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Sagat, Cammy, Seth, Cody are good starters but you can use anyone.
3) Only use normals until your execution improves to do combos. Doing normal moves(standing/crouching + button press (standinG heavy punch etc)) is a good way to learn the fundamentals, plus you can win alone just by being solid with normals and basics.
4) Don't jump often.
5) Don't panic press buttons since it's usually random presses with no thought and going on blind faith/hopes.
6) Just block.
If you wanna play again, just send me an invite whenever.

The characters I used (apart from Vega) were all characters I've played as for years. Ken, Dan and Ibuki mostly. A little bit of Fei Long too. I've also learned out of mashing buttons in panic a long time ago but I still tend to do mistakes that seem like that.
As for combos, that's the reason I'm a totally lost cause. I can't do them. I'm just too clumsy with my fingers to execute what my brain wants them to do. That's also the reason I suck at drawing and why I gave up on playing a guitar, the message just doesn't get through to my hands. The reason I tend to use more specials is to compensate my inability to do combos. I do know that it's not a very good idea but what can you do.
Blocking more and not jumping/dashing as often are certainly things I need to work on though.

Combos aren't needed to win though. That's why I suggest picking characters like Ryu and Cammy because they only need normals to win. They use the fundamentals that anyone can use. Dan is just...crap and Ibuki is a very strict character to use that requires a lot more than characters like Ryu. You need combos if you pick the fundamental characters.

Well, yeah, but I can't just drop my two favorite characters :D That is, Dan and Ibuki. I'll get bored if I'm forced to play only as the most basic characters out there. Oh yes, also forgot Cammy, I like to use her a lot too. Chun-Li is someone I also tend to pick from time to time.

That's fine. I'm not saying drop them though, I'm saying 'keep using them, but they won't teach you the fundamentals of the game'. If you pick a solid character like Ryu, then you can learn how the game works then move back on to implementing Dan. Dan is different to the other guys because of how ....awkward he is. Ibuki however requires a much vaster knowledge on the metagame since she is all about incredible speed, gimmicks, set-ups, wakeup game, spacing etc IN ORDER for her to be effective which isn't very beginner friendly(which isn't trying to sound insulting). Combined with the fact she is very execution heavy. Still play your two mains, but also try to pick a much more solid character.

Do you currently live with or are someone sensitive to violence or gore?
