One of David Bowie's biggest songs of the 80s was "China Girl" and was a top ten hit in both the US and UK in 1983. However, Bowie only claimed half the songwriting on the song.

It was originally recorded by Iggy Pop in 1977. The reason David Bowie covered the song was for financial reasons. Bowie and Iggy Pop were very close friends, and Iggy had fallen into large amounts of debt. Bowie figured he could re-work the song and make it a large hit, and then Iggy Pop would make a killing on royalties. And it worked perfectly, pulling Pop out of debt.

People really think that remakes are bad because they add too much to a character. Example most people like to bring up is the fact that The "New" Nightmare On Elm Street made him into a child molester, rather than a child killer. Did you know that this was originally going to be what his character was? It was in the book, "Screams and Nightmares: The Films of Wes Craven" so it should be true.

Also, Freddy's long arms in the first movie were made from broomsticks.

Lastly, a more well known fact, the plot for the movie was based on a case where a kid was scared to go to sleep thinking that he was going to be killed. He died a week or so later after his parents made him go to sleep.

Following up to gamemaster's post. If you look at the poster for the first Nightmare film really closely you can see that Freddy's hand in the poster is entirely different from what was in the finished film. Originally, Freddy's gloves hands were originally to have a mixture of different things. Such as skeleton bones for the outside look, the sharp end of knifes for the knife, and the look of tiger claws for the hands. The finished look of the hand is much different from what was seen in the poster for the first Nightmare film.

Freddy's hand cam be seen dragging Jason's mask into the grounds of hell in "Jason goes to hell". Setting up the idea of Freddy Vs Jason(since Jason goes to hell was originally to be the finale for the Friday the 13th series). Although, creative differences prevented the film from getting made during the 80s. New Line cinemas was not sure if the time was right for a crossover between both Friday and nightmare.

While being on the subject of horror. Did you know, that during development of The Shining, Stephen King considered Harrison Ford to play as Jack before Jack Nicholson took the role. While filming Shining, Kubrick's perfectionism had pushed Scatman Crothers limit and made the actor broke down in tears. Crothers who was aging couldn't take the stress that Kubrick was giving to him. He later took Jack Nicholson's advice to take it easy for the actor(since Jack was good friends with Scatman)

Rick Derringer may be a one hit wonder as a solo artist, but he has been with many bands during their hey-day. For example...
At the ripe age of 17, he was the guitarist for the McCoys, and he wrote their only hit song, the 1965 number Billboard Hot 100 #1 hit "Hang On Sloopy", which also just happens to be the official rock song of the state of Ohio (really, folks). But, that didn't last forever. So, he joined a new venture, and came on as a replacement guitarist for Alice Cooper in 1971. However, Rick landed a new gig later that same year, joining the Edgar Winter Group as a permanent member. He played guitar on the band's smash hit "Frankenstein", also a Billboard Hot 100 hit. But, in 1973, he decided to strike it out on his own as a solo artist. He landed another big hit yet again with "Rock And Roll, Hoochie Koo", although his buddy Edgar Winter helped him record it. After this, he found himself supporting Todd Rundgren, playing guitar for him on four seperate albums from 1972-1978. Ok, that's enough right? Wrong. He then picked up some guitar work for Steely Dan in the meantime.
Then the 80s rolled around, and he started working with Weird Al Yankovic. He's actually played guitar for almost every Weird Al album ever released.
Yep, he was the guitarist for ALL of those guys. Maybe the hardest working guy in rock and roll history?

The reason all the characters in the Simpsons are yellow is because the show's creator originally sketched them on a set of yellow sticky notes and decided to keep the yellow color.

While on the topic of the Simpsons. Matt Groening was originally asked to make a show based off of his underground comic 'Life in Hell'. While waiting for the meeting to pitch the show, being concerned about the content of the said cartoon(and worried that he'd lose the rights to his comic) he quickly sketched the simpsons as a plan B pitch. Thus giving the yellow skined family that we know today.

There was a Marvel-DC crossover that created many new characters that are combined of famous comic book heroes. There's a lot of these guys in this post, so I'll spoiler it, but it's all AWESOME!
