I wish I still had a GameCube so I could finally play that to experience all the 4th wall stuff and other content that game has. I've only read some reviews on it.

It's NES, but it's a side scrolling platformer and first person game. At certain points, you reach a room like this to warp, talk, etc. in first person. The majority of the gameplay is side scrolling on a non linear map.
