I couldn't think of a better title for this since I'm still stupefied by youtube's actions. i'll make this short. Youtube is unleashing the copyright hounds on anything video game related throughout their website(if it be Lets plays, reviews, or even footage of the said game in general). Needless to say, not a whole lot of people are taking this well.

From I've heard from other LPers they're content matching video game related, and (allegedly) denying monetizing videos. So if you were currently making/going after that sweet Youtube money then this could put a bump in your plans. Me personally could care less, and I like the way one of the sandcastle poster put it:

This video sums everything up pretty nicely from someone who actually does film/TV reviews rather than game stuff but the general concepts still apply. Commentary and criticism are valid "excuses" to be using video content of intellectual property, authorized or otherwise. It falls in to Fair Use and probably free speech at some point. Now when it comes to LPs and wholesale uploads of game footage, I agree and think it's fair that they have every right to de-monetize or claim that content (perhaps there are some very severely strict cases where it isn't fair) but when you're using heavily edited footage and clips to give context and meaning to a criticism, that's absolutely fair and requires no permission.
Reviews aren't solicited work (they CAN be, but aren't REQUIRED to be) and it's not in the same grey area as LPs.
Edit: Oh and while this doesn't necessarily apply directly to LPs, it's certainly a sadness to see a guy like Mark Bussler have to reel it in and move elsewhere. I was generally okay with this whole thing (in the sense that I knew what I had clear rights to and what I didn't) but now that I see CGR jumping ship, I'm a little worried. Considering his entire catalogue is critical works and yet even he has to consider other avenues. I don't want any of my critical works (:spergin:) to be tagged, removed or de-monitized. That's where I draw the line.

It's why I don't bother with putting time into YouTube videos. I've said it to people before, I do YouTube videos as bordem kinda thing. I'll make the odd one video that times time and effort to create and edit, but would never push myself into taking it seriously. The reason being is that YouTube is a unstable form of rewards.
There are people like who make BS videos and gain attention whereas people who work their arse off with capture cards, commentary, buying the latest games and consoles only to have a couple of views followed by them spamming places wanting attention(See that one forum member). Then there are people like AngryJoe/Boogie2899/TotalBiscuit etc who LIVE on YouTube and need the money generated from videos "survive". It's a business. But, as I've said before, it's unstable. You never get the full reward for the effort you put in. YouTube has always had a terrible content ID matching system and therefore, causes people to lose money or have to go through BS just to have their video free for all viewers.
I'm not saying, "you deserve this" but seriously, get a proper job until YouTube becomes a stable financial source of income. It's unfair to say that, but to even deny it, especially with this recent YouTube copyright system only further proves my point.
Why worry that the content you uploaded is going to get: re-uploaded somewhere else, flagged, falsely claimed, taken down, worry about SOPA/PIPA and now earning less from videos? Until YouTube is an actual business, it's kinda you're own fault for gambling on this YouTube monetisation.
Do I agree with what's happening? No
But this is far from the last time people like AngryJoe are going to get pissed at this and that's only because they live on YouTube.

Apparently he isn't fighting the future so much since he chose to run away with his tail between his legs as soon as uploading to youtube became difficult. I mean come on, this is the damn internet, dude's like that ought to be fighting to get things back they way they were, not stepping aside and allowing it like a little bitch would. Him leaving only means he has no backbone when it really counts. People need to stop acting like he's some sort of martyr and get him to get back in the game to put an end to this BS.

You do realize that if no one has the guts to boycott google when they do all this stupid shit on YT, google has won. They have already seen that people just bend over and offer their butts to them whatever they do.
Messaging google/YT management amounts to nothing, they don't care, all feedback goes to scrap. What should he do, make a video and complain about things but still keep doing it? How would that help in any way? Mark moved to his own website, flipping the bird to google and their awful business models.

If the internet can put an end to things like SOPA by showing discontent with it, so can we do the same to youtube with the same means. Boycotting will help but if we don't make a point with people who google will eventually have no hope in but to listen to like CGR, we are going to be stuck with the changes they want to make without even being able to put up a fight. This guy isn't fighting by just leaving youtube to it's own devices like that.

People have been complaining, messaging and fighting google against their changes on YouTube for years. Has anything changed? No, things have in fact gotten worse. The only way to show google that people are sick of their shit is getting all our assets and bringing them elsewhere, losing them their revenue they so desperately seem to need.
Google can suck it and shove their terrible attempt at social media so far up their asses it can see daylight through their nostrils.

So, google has issued a response to the matter
Basically, it's a really long winded way of sayong "fuck you, we can do whatever we want".
In case someone feels the need to defend google or something otherwise stupid, here's a recent story: [link]
They are literally preventing content owners, the makers of a game themselves, to monetize their videos. If you didn't click the link, they have went as far as sending google all the necessary forms and what have you, yet they still refuse to let them monetize their own work. THIS is how flawed the system is and this is how FUCKED, evil and rotten to the core google is.
Oh, and this is to say that it literally means fuck all of you try to take action against google in any way, shape or form. People need to abandon this shit site and move on.

This year alone we've had Nintendo jumping on peoples arses which was met with the same response. We've had talks about more copyright laws coming in and potentially stopping from YouTube creators making videos. Then we have this. This is just this year alone. It's happened before and will happen again.
Also, we can bitch an moan as much as we want about how shit Google and YouTube are but I'm pretty sure we have it open in another tab and are going to continue to use it as a search engine and entertainment experience respectively.
