Legend of Dragoon for the PS1. This was the first RPG I ever played, and it's easily one of my favorites. The characters were amazing, the story was ace, and the battle system. Oh man, the battle system. Picture something like Super Mario RPG or the Mario and the Luigi game's timed button presses, but even better. Each character had tons of what they called "Additions", or combos basically, that they could pull off in battle during their attack phase. They ranged from a simple two-three hit combos to ten-fifteen hitters that took time to master. Better yet, each successful hit gave out xp that LEVELED YOUR COMBOS UP. Granted, these days that's not a big deal, but back then that was THE SHIT.

God, I miss that game.

Legend of Dragoon was the very first demo I ever played and it was pure awesome!! Such a beautiful game!

I would like to put on this list Maximo: Ghosts to Glory and Maximo vs. Army of Zin for PlayStation 2. Both Capcom games based on the Ghosts'n Goblins series. Amazing games and pretty hard too, especially the first one. It's a pity they didn't make a third part.

There seems to be no love for Cubivore in this topic which makes me do a frowny face.

It is quite possibly one of the strangest games I've ever played but that's what makes it so great.

They're probably not given a chance only because they're licensed games, but Felix the Cat for NES and Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom for GCN/PS2/Xbox are two absolutely fantastic platformers. It's not really that there's anything special about them; they don't do anything that any prior 2D or 3D platformers (respectively) have done. It's just that they do it all 100% right! The controls feel perfect and tight, the graphics are clean and colorful, and every level/mission works.

Heart of Darkness for PS1. That game is just absolutely amazing and one of the best games I have ever played in my life. It's a 2D puzzle platformer with some really gruesome deaths, which is weird when you look at the otherwise PG looking game.

Yes. I didn't see this post. Absolutely one of my favorite games of all time. The best of the genre when it comes to the Out of This World, Flashback, Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee/Exoddus family tree of cinematic, puzzle/platformer game design.

I love Limbo, but when it was tearing up the gaming world and winning awards left and right, I was like "this is nothing new, guys"

I bought Heart of Darkness with my first paycheck the day it came out, and I still have the discs. I want it on PSN so bad, so that I can play it on my Vita.

WHY am I still waiting for Heart of Darkness, Silhouette Mirage, Brave Fencer Musashi, Einhander etc on PSN?

I've always wanted to try this one out, it looked like a lot of fun. The only copy I've ever seen was at a Gamestop that, for some reason, was selling it for $60 USED. Personally thought that was a bit ridiculous.

I never played that one, because I never really saw it in stores but I really do want to play that one considering I played Origins, and then I will have also played them in chronological order anyway since Origins is a sequel that tells the back-story for the first game.

Agreed for Gitaroo Man up there and I don't really know the others, except Shin Megami Tensei, that's ultra popular =P (even more because of Persona)

I wish more people knew about this fun new Nintendo IP from a while back called Kiki Trick. It's a "casual" game and Japanese only, but it has really interesting concepts:



It has a bunch of different minigames, this is just one of my favorites~
