I don't get the hate for GoT and the number of characters that die in it. I can't say I've actually watched any of it, but I've spot read my way through some of the books. Felt like there were some deaths here and there, but not massively important characters, nor characters just killed for the sake of killing. It seemed to go character acts like a total doofus=killed.
Read books like "When Things Fall Apart" where a guy slices his adopted son in half with a machete for no good reason or even freaking Shakespeare for crying out loud. Everyone dies in almost all of Shakespeare's famous stories. Hamlet, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet? Those are just depressing.
