Pokemon Go
#1
Pokémon Go released yesterday, from my understanding. I haven't watched Pokémon in over 10 years, I think, and the only Pokémon game I played was Pokémon Snap.

One of my friends at work said he downloaded Pokémon Go yesterday and caught a Ghastly coming up his staircase this morning.
Has anyone downloaded it? and what are your thoughts? I'm considering downloading it sometime and am looking for feedback. (I drive boats, so are my chances higher of capturing water-based Pokémon?)

I haven't downloaded it yet, but apparently one of the gay clubs near Austin (I saw this last night, probably wrong) is one of the pokeball getting places (assuming I understand this correctly.).

That just sounds wrong.

Much hype.

The release date has not been revealed for worldwide releases yet.

As far as I can tell, they were assigned pretty randomly. As the front says, there was a police station in Australia that was getting raided by Pokemon fans.

I tried downloading it, can't connect to the servers.
I'm curious about us folks that live in the middle of nowhere and how it will work.

There's already been some issues about Pokemon GO's placement of Pokemon. A kid has already been stabbed and robbed while going after a Pokemon, warnings have been issued to people to watch where they are going as a few people have almost been hit by traffic because they weren't looking. The game is going to cause people to die and it's all because of our addictive nature.

On the more lighthearted side, Pokemon have been found in some funny places like Magikarp being in frying pans or Squirtle's on toilets. Also, if you do get the game, just know that apparently it eats at your battery faster than pretty much every app on the market right now.

Closest pokecenter is apparently a good two hour drive from me, since they centered pokemon and stuff around cities.
Since I live on a farm in the middle of nowhere, this game will be pretty well unplayable. Nice.
Edit: Did a little more reading on how the game actually works and it creates portals and pokemon spawns based on how many people within a pretty small area. This means that if it's just you and nobody around with Pokemon Go, you'll never catch anything. Here I was thinking I could get some easy Pokemon nobody else wiuld ever come near in the hundreds of acres that are simply just woods around my house. Darn.

Patrick and I both have it. It's been working ok throughout the day for us. We downloaded it last night but couldn't really get going. This morning we were able to catch some Pokemon before it started crashing. It's been crashing on and off all day, BUT we have been able to play and catch quite a few Pokemon. We are both off today and have been having a lot of fun with it. There's a gym right across the street from our apartment, and there's lots of checkpoint around us too.

I tried it out for a little bit, but it thought I was in the middle of the gulf or something.

Either way,

It's not dangerous if you aren't a blithering idiot. I hate it when people cast this kind of aspersions on anything.
Enjoy it responsibly, so that we can have nice things without having to hear half-cooked blatherings about how dangerous it is.

I'm playing a little bit just to try it out. It's not bad but the hype is way too high for this thing.
