Favorite Monk. I gotta go Lee Rekka from The Last Blade series.
The reason about why he is my favorite is that I just like him, he's a dude that came from China to Bakumatsu Era Japan. He has the spirit of discovery and believes in justice. It is simple but a strong concept.
Another reason about why he is my favorite is that his fighting style is quite different from the other characters in the series, who are mostly Swordmen.

Now that you mention it, we also did favorite vampires twice.
Going back on the subject, I'll choose Funny Valentine, he was the 23rd President of the United States and also served during the American Civil War.
He was featured in two videogames, one of which came out a year ago.
Kanji. The ambiguity isn't the defining characteristic of Kanji, but adds greatly to the depth of the character. He isn't potentially homosexual just because he is and we need more people represented in the gaming world, but it explores who he really is and all of his feelings/struggles with having lost his father.

So basically, you are saying that the only thing that people should care about this Kanji guy is his sexual orientation?
Speaking of which, I love how the amount of anti-gamers screeching in glee that gamers must be SO GODDAMNED MAD that they're LOSING TRACER TO TEH GAYNESS is outnumbering the number of people actually complaining about Tracer being gay by about 20 to 1.
Seriously, the vast, vast majority of gamers I've seen reacting to this have had a decidedly "yeah, whatever" reaction.
