I live near a Burger King where they have sort of a small fenced in area for their large dumpster. They lock it at night to keep people from throwing away larger objects instead of paying the dump to take them.
I guess somehow a coyote got in there, the employees called the police, and they ended up shooting it. Poor thing... I wish they could've just tranquilized him; no doubt he was just looking for some food.

That's pretty BS. It'll probably be served on the menu tomorrow.

I would boycott that Burger King and your local power hungry cops :)

Unfortunately, we don't have animal control in my town anymore, so it is left up to the cops who I doubt are given any training at all in the matter. Heck... I wonder if they even have access to tranquilizer guns?
I only know this because I called the humane society a few years ago about a dog the owner had accidentally hit with her car. He had a large gash on his head and a swollen paw, but I heard her say they couldn't afford to bring him to a vet (most likely because, despite the fact she and her husband were dirt poor, they still felt the need to have four kids and three dogs).
They sent an officer there to make them get the dog medical attention but I wish they'd just taken him. He was one of the sweetest dogs I'd ever met.

Long animal/people rant[spoiler]
It's such a shame. As humans, we feel we are better than all other species, therefor we take them out of their environment and away from their families to keep them as "pets". Then, said animals only get the care we give them, not the care they need/deserve. They only get what we decide to give them.
I was actually thinking about this today. My mom and me took my brother to Petco to get stuff for his new dog he got yesterday. He did not buy ANY materials for her beforehand (I made sure my cat had food, food bowls, a kennel, toys, snacks, everything for a nice home BEFORE I went to get one at the shelter). He also got her from a breeder/puppy farm instead of a shelter.
Anyway, we were walking through the store and I was telling him he needs this and that, and he questioned everything. "Why does she need that?" "She only needs one toy." "I'll just get the huge kennel now so I only have to get one." He's very lazily taking care of this dog (still much better than same, as I know he won't mistreat her or anything).
I told him he needs to leave a radio and a light on while he's at work like I do with my cat, so she will think someones there and won't get sad and lonely (vet said it's a good idea) He said "Nah." He seriously brushed off all the things I said and is giving her the bare minimum. It just makes me so mad.
I'm not a crazy activist or anything, but I hate this whole "humans are superior" bullshit. If we'r going to force animals to live with us and be our companions, we need to go above and beyond to make them happy and loved and comfortable, as we would ourselves.
I'm so glad you brought this up. I was wanting to rant to someone about this! Haha

Sorry about all that. I was on a roll!
