It's the stuff place in the anime to fill up the space the manga does not cover. Exmple: The bount arc in bleach was never apart of the manga and was made so the manga could make more chapters to make into anime episodes. Some animes skip filler and make up the story along the way when they run out of material. Full Metal Alchemist did this before the reboot.

Out of all the words I have seen misused, filler tends to be one that I see on many anime forums.

If you want to know what a filler is, try out the TVTropes page as it explains it better than me. FMA did not have filler (minus the one Armstrong episode with his sister which was hilarious) because all of the events after the deviation from the original manga still contributed heavily to the plot and the theme that the show itself was trying to set up and get across.

I actually like FMA because it made it's own story so well. Most Animes ether stop to have the story pick up in the manga, or make up really bad stories to have the story continue. I will say that at some points the story does not make since but I would like for you to tell me one series that does not have bad points every once in a wile.
I stopped watching Bleach cause the fillers became stupid, like that princess filler I did not care about. I'm not sure why I stopped watching FMA:B. Need to pick that up. Is it Good? I can't remember.

Since it was brought up, best scene ever.
People usually like one and dislike one, but I liked both series. I would have to say I liked FMA:B more though, but not by much.

I've been playing some zombie games and I've been wondering if there's an anime with a zombie apocalypse. I haven't heard of any and I'm too lazy to search for one.

High School of The Dead is the only one I can think of at the time

Oh yeah, I love the the 2003 version and Brotherhood, more so around the same now. As for Brotherhood, the biggest problem with the show lies within the first thirteen episodes (the episodes the original anime showed before deviating from the source material). In those thirteen episodes, there were pacing problems like whoa and they tried to insert comedy in scenes that trully did not need them, which killed some of the tension for a couple of them. After they introduce Ling though, the show becomes really engaging and is MUCH better.

@Ghost Nappa - The only one to become semi popular is High School of the Dead. That being said, I wouldn't really recommend it unless you just want campy fun. If you don't have a problem with stale/cliched characters and an excessive amount of fanservice, then go for it.

and when I mean excessive, it can get reeeeeeallly stupid -

From what I can see, it's basically light hentai.

Don't be mistaken. It is indeed very perverted but it has an excellent story dealing with the struggles of these people as they try to go about their lives, merely trying to survive. The reason you would likely perceive it as such actually is that the artist for the anime and its manga is actually a hentai artist. Oh, by the way kids on the site, don't you dare look up hentai. You're far too young to have your childhood destroyed. Its all you've got!

High School of the Dead is a good boob anime, I mean zombie anime.
So my initial thoughts on a few anime that have been out for a few weeks this season -

Watamote! (It's Not My Fault I'm Not Popular)

Based off a manga I was reading before the anime was announced, the adaptation has been really faithful, with the anime throwing in more references to other anime though. In some cases, they were pretty hilarious and worked more for an anime, such as the Death Note one in the first episode.

For those who don't know, Watamote is about a very anti social girl who enters high school and is much different from her regular expectations. While it sounds dull, the comedy is well executed and serves for an enjoyable watch so far.

Fate/Kaleid

So let me state that if there's one series I adore the most, it's definitely the Fate series(with Type Moon being one of my favorite companies). I first started loving it when I watched Fate/Zero, a fantastic prequel to Fate/Stay Night and ranks as my second favorite anime of all time. It has some of the most beautiful fights and animation with also having a very engaging and mature story with well handled themes, making it much better than your average Shonen Jump tournament series. After finishing Fate/Zero, I decided to go with the original Fate/Stay Night Visual Novel (as looking at it now, the anime is pretty bad and it makes me a sad Type Moon fan), which is a work I loved as well. Sure, the H Scenes and the Fate route in general were either really bad or mediocre, but Unlimited Blade Works and Heavens Feel (which I consider better than Fate/Zero) more than made up for it. Hell, I even adore Carnival Phantasm, which is a random comedy mix between Type Moon works.

So what do I think of Fate/Kaleid so far? Haha..ehh. I had low expectations due to the general summary of the show, but it's alright enough. It's not a worthwile watch, but I enjoy all of the Fate stuff/references thrown in, and it's interesting to say the least. Plus, Rin is there and she's always dope.

Free!

*Cue the squealing fangirls*

Oh man, the fan reactions to this show has been amusing to say the least, and very sad in a way. For those who don't know, Free was created by Studio KyoAni, who's works tend to feature series which many people have come to dub as the "moe shows with really cute girls". Their works include the Key adapatations (Clannad, Kanon, Air), The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzimiya, Lucky Star, and K-On. When word came out that the studio who's known to make anime featuring moe blob characters that tend to be targeted towards males was making a fujoshi bait show like this, controversy broke out and many silly internet fight broke out. The saddest part for me was people really thinking that this was the first show to include fanservice for the girls rather than the males, which is not the case.

Anyways, for the show itself.....pffft! You know, I'm not the target audience, but it's actually somewhat enjoyable! Sure, the plot is corny and much of the series is fluff with the male characters fitting the usual fujoshi bait character tropes, but it's still a decent series thus far. The character themselves are still likable in an odd way and some moments have just been hilarious (though not always intentional).

Oh yeah, and I think this anime is about swimming or something.

Monogatari Second Season

Since this is a sequel to one of my favorite animes, I'll just say that I love it to death so far and it's my number one watch for the Summer season.
^Thanks for that post, you actually got me interested in some of those. I'll add them to my list when I actually get a computer that works.

Btw. I love HotD. I just bought the fifth issue of the manga.
So Mononoke is the best looking anime I have ever come across and after finishing this gem, it has become one of my personal favorites. There is no other show quite like it and while it doesn't really have reoccurring characters you can latch on to, each of the arcs are really engaging. Much of the themes are reminiscent to that of old Japanese values/culture, and the art style really compliments it. As far as anime goes, it's the more purely Eastern work I have seen.

Watched the first three episodes of the new Danganronpa, which was adapted from a video game.

So the plot is pretty dumb and the bear is rather an annoying character. The main character also has nothing special going for him as he's rather generic and boring. Similar to the complains given to the Persona 4 anime, it's pretty obvious that this was an anime adaptation of a video game.

That being said, the first three episodes were really entertaining and thrilling, being much better than what I initially expected. The best part of the show has to be the trial that appeared over the murder, which is why I can now see why this series is often compared to the likes of Phoenix Wright. The show has also managed to know when to be goofy without completely killing the tension of the situation, which I applaud it for.

Oh, and I'm pretty happy that I was able to call who would die first and who the killer would be! Granted, it was for completely shallow reasons.

There was a LP of the game that got really really popular on SA which got me interested in the game and it's squeal. Though trying to read over 600 pages of posts and how often posters get probated for posting really weird otaku-related stuff/spoilers kinda turned me off from it.
