Oh wow. Yeah, you totally have to! I love that movie so much.

Sometimes (not you), it's usually some people acting elitist due to it just being older and what not.

As for good anime films, my favorite anime film of all time is Millenium Actress, directed by the legendary Satoshi Kon. Everyone I know who has seen it has loved it and it avoids the usual anime stereotypes, so I think you would enjoy it.

@Hex - Curious, have you ever thought about watching Madoka Magica? I think you would enjoy it. It also helps that it's really short.

Yeah. Elitist attitudes towards anything is stupid.
"Back in my day the original 151 Pokemon were the best. These 600 Pokemon now is dumb. Fuck you."
S'like oh I'm an idiot for not being born at the right time.

Heck, some recent-ish Animes are amazing. I never really got into Full Metal Alchemist but it's decent. Afro Samurai is a terrific Anime and I guarantee there's a crap ton more. Samurai Champloo I highly rate. Death Note is one of the best sparks of brilliance in Shonens otherwise bland as hell IPs. Eden of the East has an interesting story etc. So there are some great stuff out there.

I just feel really disconnected with what the big stuff is. But always willing to try though before bashing.

Edit: Forgot to mention.
Wolf Children is a pretty good movie.
Oh! Oh! I forgot all about Cat Soup! It's a short half hour OVA, based off a really twisted manga, written by a troubled woman who sadly committed suicide when it was getting wildly popular.

Also, since no one's acknowledged it whenever I've talked about it, here's the first two episodes of Big O posted right here for you to click on in hopes you will watch them.

I'll watch Baccano. Seen the first 3 episodes and it's kinda 'wobbly' for me. But have to give stuff chance right?

Well Cody since you're always so hard on modern anime for it's short comings of a lot of them being generic, I have a suggestion for you that I've suggested to a lot of other people on this forum, and possibly you at one point, I'm not sure and I'm not willing to go check at the moment. Watch Psycho-Pass, it only has one season out right now and is getting a second season and a film soon, it's an action thriller anime with a plot meant to keep you guessing as there are quite a bit of twists, but not so much to where you get confused and it's just ridiculous, I'll also add the plot synopsis in here since I'm not good at explaining plot without spoilers.

Plot synopsis: The series takes place in the near future, when it is possible to instantaneously measure and quantify a person's state of mind and personality. This information is recorded and processed, and the term "Psycho-Pass" refers to a standard used to measure an individual's being. The story centers around the "Enforcement Officer" Shinya Kougami, who is tasked with managing crime in such a world. ----- Oh yeah and what the plot synopsis doesn't mention is that there are two main protagonists the other one being Akane Tsunemori who is an "Inspector", and the Inspectors are the superiors over the Enforcment Officers, that much is all first episode stuff so I don't care if I tell it to you.
I don't have high hopes for this, but have a Bayonetta trailer:

Definitely interested.
>Studio Gonzo

I'm wary.
That Bayonetta Anime looks good.

I just hope they have the same VA for the English dub, if there ever is one.

I dunno, I've liked a lot of Gonzo's series.

I think the only anime from them that I've seen at least one episode of and hated with all my guts was Strike Witches, and even then it was just the ridiculously stupid premise that originated from the manga.

Welcome to the NHK is one of my favorite anime of all time, but it has the same problem that's in other Gonzo series - extreme jumps from decent quality animation to OH GOD WHAT ARE CHARACTER MODELS.
Eh, don't really matter to me if the story is good, though I get what you mean.
I dare you guys to look up The Enigma of Amigara Fault.
A new Sonic animation? Yes please! Hopefully it is better than Sonic X.

I started watching Attack on Titan a few days ago, I'm only on episode 10 and I absolutely love it.
