I still think the casting choice was stupid for GITS. I don't want to watch a Black Widow movie. I want to see a proper Ghost in The Shell movie.
How do we know it's not a proper GITS movie? It still hasn't come out. And Space Jockey has a point, she's a cyborg and in the comics she tends to swap her body quite often anyway.
Just being paranoid for the most part on my end.
Lucy was a big let down for me.
Just to play Devil's Advocate, Lucy was a stupid premise based on a medical claim debunked a century ago, so I hesitate to count it against the GitS movie. What's next a movie about a kid who develops superpowers because he got a measles vaccination?
Everybody talks about the body swapping claim...I think that's a faulty argument. GitS's story is important the Japanese setting. What's the Major going to be now...a CIA operative, working to protect the president? Congrats you just remade Olympus Falling/White House Down with a female lead.
Coming from the perspective of a professional writer, the idea is poor story-building. I know the industry never would have greenlit the movie with someone like...lets go ahead and use Kikuchi Rinko as the top non-ScarJo choice. In American you just can't get someone to throw money at a non-whitewashed movie, because all the people with the money are stupid and hide behind a bunch of racist stat reports.
So you get Scarlett Johannsen on board...congrats, you can make her the star, give her top billing, whatever it takes to get the movie to work. But you cast Rinko as the Major (or whoever would do well in the role) and ScarJo is the American Ambassador on an important trip to Japan that Section 9 is tasked with protecting. Or ScarJo is the CIA operative that Section 9 has to bring along for the ride who acts as an adjutant to the team on a joint U.S.-Japan operation. You could even set it in the U.S. with Section 9 being sent to the U.S. to help in the joint Japan-U.S. operation, or even to somewhere in Europe/Africa/Elsehwere in Asia/South American, etc.
It creates a nice base to springboard off from and then you can make more Section 9-centric stuff, in Japan, to create a franchise.
If you really want to use the body-swapping defense, then ScarJo is the American operative who works along with Section 9 and she and the Major switch bodies or something.
As it stands right now, they are basically re-creating a Mission Impossible movie with a pseudo-anime setting, not a GitS movie.
Edit: Although I will disagree with Psycho...if they could make it interesting, I'd actually like a Black Widow movie. Just not in my GitS.

A white person acting for non-white roles = “whitewashing”, but a non-white person acting “white” roles = inclusion and diversification..?
Besides, Motoko Kusanagi is a cyborg, so tecnically she can change her appaearence/switch bodies to whatever pleases her.
Funny considering Black Widow is supposed to be Russian and she is nothing like that.
I think "whitewashing" is pretty stupid since it does apply when randomly changing a character from white to black.

So I made my anime 3x3
Welcome to the NHK
Space Dandy
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (Not just Part 2)
Castle in the Sky
Cowboy Bebop
A Certain Magical Index/A Certain Scientific Railgun (Shortened to Raildex since I like both)
The World God Only Knows
Gurren Lagann
Kaiji
What do you guys think?
It's usually rated what you've enjoyed/what you've seen. So 3/4 could be you've seen Castle in the Sky, Bebop, Space Dandy and Kaiji, but didn't like Space Dandy,
So, I finished Part 7 of Jojo, well, around 3 minutes ago.
Reading Jojo has helped me understand many things about myself that I didn't know before, one of them being that I am heavily influenced by opinions of others and opinons of others are usually what I base things off.
In other words, I read Parts 1-6 only knowing one thing, and that was that Stardust Crusaders was "supposedly" the best part, and that everything afterwards was not as good. So when I read Part 3 I thought it was the best, and still do to an extent. Part 4 however was really good and I never understood why people said everything after Part 3 wasn't very good.
Eventually I talked to my friends about it, and they all had a go at me for saying Part 3 was my favourite, eventually I had to think about the parts and try and think about them in a different way. My rankings changed and to this day I still don't think I truly believe my own rankings.
I was told by a lot of people that Part 7 was the best part, or at least tied with 2. So I already had this inflated opinion of Part 7, additionally I was spoiled on several things in Part 7 that made them even less important when they occured. Mainly Spoiler:Gyro's Death, and The World making a comeback. The latter truly felt like a missed opportunity since I would've loved to see that as a surprise, even though I already knew who Johnny was chasing after in those final volumes, and it was a shame.
Overall, Part 7 was a difficult part for me to follow. Not even sure why, I did read each part before I'd sleep and thus would always be tired, a lot of the time I'd not be following what I'm reading, and then something big would happen and I'd have to go back to re-read it all over again. Hell, even when I would put it down for the night and come back to it the next day I'd forget what's happening.
I feel as if Part 7 is a good part, but I just don't know where to put it right now.
As of now, I'd say my current rankings are
3 = 4 > 2 = 7 > 6 > 1 > 5
But even I don't believe that as of now.
Going to read 8 soon, and truly be up to date. Hopefully no one will spoil it for me, and nothing will be said about it.
After rewatching Cowboy Bebop again, I finally go up to episode 8, the only episode I truly remember.
Man, I feel sorry for Riko, such a great character even if he was only in one episode.
Thanks Akagi, I just watched to watch a Kaiji-esque gambling survival anime, and here I am looking up the fucking rules of how to play Mahjong.
I hope you're happy Nobuyuki Fukumoto.
....the fuck is a tenpai?
This is a two year old girl, according to A-1.
Also, for anyone who has played the games, but doesn't care for the anime. Watch the latest episode since it just expanded on the class trial covering how they met, why they have the signal samurai key-rings, and more.
Finally up to date with Jojo, took me around 8 months to read the whole thing, but it's nice to know I'm up to date with the whole thing.
Also, I truly do love Kira in Part 4, and Part 8. He's the perfect villain in Part 4.
Man, I'm really bumping this thread huh. Sorry bout this, if it's against the rules to have too many self bumps.
I got back into reading I am a Hero, since it stopped at 191 a few months back and didn't update for a while, so I'm back to reading it.
One thing I do enjoy about the main character is that he's the loser who has power. You don't get to see that a lot of the time, additionally the things he says and the things he does are oddly truthful.
The girl he's traveling with was infected for around 50 chapters instead of letting her go since she is no longer human, he continued to travel with her, and made sure she was comfortable and kept in a clean condition (to the point he was cleaning her crotch and replacing her underwear) she suddenly become uninfected and continued to travel with him. She asked him this question in a small time they had alone, and he gave that response.
And of course, the anime-esque response.
