Can't say for Sword Art but what you see out there in anime land is not hentai. Its fan service, and that, I can agree is more rampant. I don't mind it all too much unless it overshadows the narrative.

I'd recommend watching this video -
As for Sword Art Online, don't bother with that cliche show with one dimensional characters.
If you want something that doesn't really have fanservice and has an engaging story and some fantastic action, check out Fate/Zero.
I agreed with most of what he was talking about in the video (Oh my god was Heaven's Lost Property terrible), but Panty and Stocking really wasn't that bad. The show is supposed to be crude and ridiculous. For the most part you have chibis running around; those sexed up transformation sequences are hardly seen at all.

Don't worry, he knows that -
Did I mention I really like Gigguk's videos?

I think if it's an anime that you know will have it, it's not a big deal, but if it's just blatant boobs and butts flying about all willy nilly it gets very annoying.

awh. But Sword Art looked so pretty! Well I probably wouldn't have the time to sit down and watch it anyway. I think the last anime I legitimately watched from start to end was Brotherhood.
If you're unsure, check out this review.
It also gives me an excuse to link another Gigguk video.
You know, after reading the manga's for To Aru Majustu No Index. It's actually made much more sense than the anime did.
I don't know if they forgot parts, or explained them incorrectly but now I understand a lot more than I did before.
Hell, a few more episodes now make sense since I read the manga (since it was all adapted from it)
Also, It's kind of odd how I can type out the name correctly without having the google it or anything.
New video yo.
Good video and I agree in many points, but I'm quite surprised he didn't mention another huge factor that prevents it from becoming mainstream - the language barrier. There are many people who don't want to read subtitles, and by the time an English dub is out (if one), it would be around 1-2 years later, and many have a mentality of wanting everything first; having or watching the new toy first.

My biggest question is does anime need to be mainstream? Can't one just enjoy it for it is and don't care what the popular opinion is?

Watch the ending part of the video. Both sides have positives and negatives.
My small collection shall grow huge one day and be put on a beautiful shelf.
For anyone that likes Naruto and/or the Naruto theme songs. This video has every theme from the first to the newest theme.
